CUSTODIAN

CustodianTo keep buildings and grounds safe, neat, clean, and presentable at all times. An employee in this class performs routine manual work, cleaning and maintaining buildings. The employee performs recurring tasks in accordance with established practices and cleaning schedules. When problems arise, an employee in this class will refer them to the head custodian or supervisor. Supervision is direct with frequent inspections to assure completion of assignments in accordance with instructions and standards of cleanliness.Successful work experienceDepending on the job duties assigned for the day, the employees may perform lifting and pulling on a more frequent or less frequent basis. However, job duties may change throughout the week depending on the needs of the individual department or school at which the employee may be working. Bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and being on feet for extended periods of time may be frequent occurrence. Walking backwards will be a common requirement, especially when assisting in finishing floors. Lifting up to 50 pounds, more than 50 pounds with assistance, may be a common requirement.
