Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Obstetrics Duration: 11 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Two years of nursing experience required License: Licensed RN able to practice in the State Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), NIH Stroke Scale, Neonatal Resuscitation, S.T.A.B.L.E, Fetal Heart Monitor Course Must-Have: - Two years of nursing experience - Experience with fetal monitoring equipment - Ability to recognize maternal and fetal complications Description: The RN performs under the direct supervision of the Director. The RN is delegated an assignment to achieve quality patient care. The Clinical Nurse implements the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. This is done in collaboration with the charge nurse and is evidenced by documentation in the Patient Care Record. Direct observation by the Director and patient evaluations of care are also considered. The RN is responsible to the unit Director for patient care and is ultimately accountable to the Director of Nursing. The Clinical Nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care. This includes the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Care is provided as described in the department's policies and procedures. All care and pertinent information are documented in the Medical Record to ensure continuity of care. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. The employee will also perform other reasonably related job duties as assigned. Performance Expectations: Demonstrate technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting labor and delivery equipment, including fetal monitors and telemetry monitoring. Apply critical thinking skills in emergent situations by recognizing both maternal and fetal complications. Anticipate the needs of physicians and anesthesia to expedite emergencies. Recognize and intervene in delivery complications, such as shoulder dystocia and hemorrhage. Safely position the laboring patient to enhance uteroplacental blood flow. Safely use leg stirrups during vaginal delivery and assist the physician with vacuum extractors or forceps. Tolerate physically demanding tasks, including repositioning patients under epidural anesthesia. Practice safe care related to the mother-infant couplet and recognize compromised newborns. Perform emergency interventions as required. Practice and educate on successful breastfeeding techniques. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and visitors while being sensitive to cultural and religious beliefs. Interact effectively and build respectful relationships with healthcare professionals. Follow all organizational policies and procedures and use appropriate communication methods. Demonstrate a positive attitude and personal initiative while achieving departmental goals. Adhere to safety standards and promote the established values of the organization. Participate in all competencies planned for the job role before deadlines.
