Job Description
The Electro/Mechanical/Electronic Technician performs a wide range of electrical, mechanical, and electronic duties focused on the assembly, wiring, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and refurbishment of complex electro-mechanical and electronic assemblies. This role works from drawings, schematics, and wire lists to build and repair chassis, consoles, cables, and systems for first article, prototype, and limited production equipment, ensuring high-quality, reliable, and safe end products.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and wire complete electro-mechanical assemblies using schematics and wire lists, forming all necessary cabling, wiring, and routing in accordance with drawings.
- Perform assembly and wiring operations on electro-mechanical chassis, consoles, cables, and systems associated with moderately complex first article, prototype, or limited production equipment.
- Execute final cleanup, dress-out, and pre-quality inspections of chassis-type electro-mechanical assemblies, inspecting to IPC-A-620, FOD, and ESD procedures and requirements.
- Perform final assembly on electro-mechanical chassis, including fitting, aligning, and securing all mechanical and electrical components.
- Build cable assemblies by cutting wire to length, terminating crimp or solder circular and D-series connectors, running and terminating braid, and applying final heat shrink.
- Perform circuit checks and continuity testing on completed assemblies to verify proper operation and functionality.
- Refurbish and modify fielded equipment, including bench repair of defective items such as rewiring incorrect connections, removing and replacing defective wires and components, re-soldering connections, and retying wire runs.
- Implement engineering changes from revision notices and perform all required repairs, including adding or removing wires and components as specified.
- Assemble various mechanical parts such as panels, doors, hinges, frames, and related hardware on airborne and ground chassis assemblies.
- Optionally perform electrician-related tasks, including installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrically operated equipment and associated distribution networks and components.
- Perform routine maintenance on electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment in elevated locations using man lifts when required.
- Wire Line Replaceable Units independently using only drawings, schematics, and wire lists, with minimal guidance.
- Set up and support an electronics shop environment, contributing to layout, organization, and workflow for assembly and test operations.
- Collaborate in a fast-paced team environment with Engineering, Quality, and Logistics to support production, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area in accordance with shop standards and safety procedures.
- Travel occasionally to the headquarters location in Maryland to review and align with the shop environment being replicated at the local facility.
- Work with little direction and supervision while maintaining a strong focus on end-unit assembly quality, reliability, and functionality.
- Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience assembling and wiring similarly complex electro-mechanical units, preferably in an aircraft or aerospace environment.
- Proven ability to perform point-to-point wiring using schematics and wire lists without detailed step-by-step instructions.
- Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assembly, disassembly, and integration of mechanical and electrical components.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to assemble and wire electro-mechanical chassis, consoles, cables, and systems for complex equipment.
- Experience performing circuit checks and continuity testing on completed assemblies.
- Ability to build cable assemblies, including cutting wire to length, terminating crimp and solder connectors, and applying braid and heat shrink.
- Capability to perform bench repairs, including rewiring, replacing components, and re-soldering connections on defective equipment.
- Competence in executing engineering changes based on revision notices and updating wiring and components accordingly.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
- Comfort working in a high-paced, team-oriented environment alongside Engineering, Quality, and Logistics personnel.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to use standard software; familiarity with MS Office suite is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous soldering certification to J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies is strongly desired.
- Previous certification to IPC-A-620 for cable and wire harness assemblies is strongly desired.
- Experience inspecting assemblies to IPC-A-620, FOD, and ESD procedures and requirements.
- Background in aircraft or aerospace electro-mechanical systems is highly beneficial.
- Experience setting up an electronics shop environment, including tools, processes, and workflow, is a strong plus.
- Exposure to hydraulics, control circuits, and automated machinery, including variable frequency drives (VFDs) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Familiarity with low-voltage electrical systems, electrical components, and electrical systems troubleshooting.
- Experience working with electro-mechanical systems that integrate software, controls, and mechanical components.
- Ability to perform installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrically operated equipment and associated distribution networks.
- Comfort working at heights using man lifts for maintenance and repair tasks when required.
You join a team that values craftsmanship, precision, and collaboration in building complex electro-mechanical systems. The environment encourages hands-on problem solving, close interaction with engineering and quality teams, and opportunities to broaden your skills across electrical, mechanical, and electronic disciplines.
