PHARMACEUTICAL CONSULTANT II, DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES (SPECIALIST)

Salary : $7,857.00 - $11,365.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range. Position : Pharmacy Consultant I or II. Work Schedule : Hybrid – up to two days remote work and three or more days onsite. Job Summary : CalPERS seeks a Pharmacy Consultant I or II to oversee the pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) contracted for self‑funded PPO health plans and the pharmacy and medical pharmacy benefits provided by CalPERS’ HMO plans. The position is responsible for implementing policies, evaluating pharmacy benefit management, and responding to member inquiries regarding pharmaceutical benefits. The consultant will collaborate closely with CalPERS’ pharmacy consultant II, clinical and contract teams, PBM staff, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and contractual obligations. Key Responsibilities Implement pharmacy benefit policies and evaluate pharmacy benefit management programs. Respond to member inquiries regarding pharmaceutical benefits. Collaborate with PBM, health plan teams, and external consultants to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and contractual obligations. Monitor pharmacy benefits to maintain accessibility, affordability, and sustainability. Minimum Requirements Pharmacy Consultant I or II, Department of Health Services. Salary range for Pharmacy Consultant II: $7,857.00 - $11,365.00; for Pharmacy Consultant I: $7,159.00 - $10,332.00. 1 position. Permanent, full‑time. Desirable Qualifications Active California pharmacy license with no restrictions. Graduation from pharmacy school and experience as a pharmacist in a professional setting. Ability to train and communicate pharmacy concepts to non‑medical staff. Extensive background in pharmacy benefits and pharmacy policy.
