Metallurgical Lab Technician II

Location South Gate, California, United States. Position Summary Under direct supervision, the senior Met‑Lab Technician performs lab tasks such as preparing samples for testing, complete general testing, and completing paperwork such as control sheets which define required testing methods based on industry specifications. The technician will demonstrate the ability to follow internal technical process specifications and read blueprints. This position’s work schedule is 12 pm - 8:30 pm. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Comply with PCC Code of Conduct Requirements and all PCC Cardinal Rules (e.g., Quality and Safety). Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction. Carry out all functions, duties or tasks in an honest, ethical and professional manner, and in conformance with applicable company policies and procedures. When uncertain or lacking knowledge of company policies and procedures, request clarification from superiors or authorized representatives. Accept and review all incoming material purchased for testing, verifying quantity, size, weight, and surface requirements against the purchase order. Confirm that all material specifications match the testing envelope. Assign internal identification codes. Prepare micro samples, spot micros, and take photographs using polishing equipment, metallograph, mounting press, cutting machine, and etching facilities. Prepare and etch metallurgical samples for examination by metallurgists. Prepare and etch macro slices for examination. Complete general metallurgical testing and paperwork such as control sheets. Maintain laboratory equipment in a clean and organized manner. Maintain storage and control of all micros and test remnants. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Can work with multiple priorities and seek supervisor’s help when conflicts arise. Professional communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with others. Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities. Willingness to learn and receive training. Sense of urgency. Experience & Education Associate degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent technical field, and minimum 3 years metallurgical laboratory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Demands Frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Frequently stand, walk, and sit. Occasionally lift or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Manufacturing and laboratory environments; moderate noise level. Benefits Pay range: $18.00 to $22.00 per hour (USD).
