Reports to: Director, JD Externship Program

Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator for the JD Externship Program is an integral member of the team, supporting law students in apprenticeship-type placements where they earn credit toward their law degree while developing skills and often advancing public service goals. The ideal Program Coordinator is the organizational core of the team, providing administrative support for the Programs faculty, assisting students in their search for placements, communicating regularly with outside organizations, and taking initiative to facilitate collaboration and ensure the smooth operation of the program.
Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:
- Embrace, support, and contribute to the mission of the JD Externship Program and VLGS.
- Coordinate and support all operations of the JD Externship Program.
- Support the planning and organizing of JD Externship Program events, including student information sessions.
- Perform administrative tasks, including tracking the program budget, managing the program email account, record keeping, and providing support to faculty in the program.
- Draft and facilitate JD Externship Program communications, including reports, press releases, newsletters, websites, and social media.
- Proofread and edit final reports and communications.
- Collaborate and represent the JD Externship Program with other departments and programs within VLGS and with current and prospective students.
- Support maintenance and further development of a database of placements open to hosting students, including serving as the first point of contact for external organizations reaching out for information.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
Education, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree plus minimum 2-4 years relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Highly organized.
- Ability to take on projects with minimal supervision and track and meet deadlines.
- Excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills.
- Ability to work well with a diverse group of people (including staff, faculty, students, and the public) in a variety of situations and as part of a collaborative team.
- Familiarity with or a willingness to learn and embrace various software/platforms, including practice management and timekeeping software, Canvas or related learning management system(s), and cloud-based Microsoft Office programs.
- An interest in regular interaction with students.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines and reorganize under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent planning, administrative, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be able to work legally within the United States without sponsorship.
- Ability to perform all essential functions of the job with or without basic accommodations.
