HR Generalist

We are a well-established Illinois-based company with approximately 130 employees looking for an experienced HR Generalist to join its team in Rockford. This is a great opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys being hands-on, working closely with employees and managers, and having a meaningful impact across the organization. What You'll Do Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers, providing guidance on HR policies, benefits, workplace concerns, attendance, and employee relations. Manage and support hourly recruiting, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, candidate communication, offers, and pre-employment processes. Lead the onboarding process and ensure new employees have a positive, organized introduction to the company. Partner with department leaders on employee engagement, recognition, and retention initiatives. Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with company policies. Track and analyze key HR metrics, including headcount, turnover, attendance, hires, terminations, and internal transfers, and communicate trends to leadership. Manage timekeeping and attendance processes, ensuring employee hours, overtime, and PTO are accurately recorded. Coordinate payroll activities and work closely with Finance to research and resolve payroll discrepancies. Help employees understand company policies, procedures, benefit programs, and other HR-related resources. Assist with employee relations matters and work with management to address workplace issues appropriately and professionally. Support compliance with applicable employment laws and company policies. Assist with HR projects, process improvements, employee communications, and other initiatives that strengthen the overall employee experience. Provide general HR support across the organization and jump in wherever needed to keep the department running efficiently. What We're Looking For 2+ years of hands-on HR experience in a Generalist, HR Coordinator, HR Specialist, or similar role. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Working knowledge of HR practices, employee relations, payroll/timekeeping, benefits, and employment compliance. Strong Microsoft Office skills and the ability to learn and navigate HRIS/timekeeping systems. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels of an organization. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment. A proactive, approachable personality and the ability to work independently while collaborating with management and employees.
