Health Unit Coordinator (Part Time)

Category:Nursing and Nursing AdministrationDescription:Serves as Hospital Acute Care/Swing Unit receptionist, answering telephone. Responsible for performing clerical & receptionist duties, answering phones, managing visitors (non-Patient access), facilitating communication, and contributing to a smooth functioning, cost efficient well-equipped unit. When staffing dictates the need for the HUC to work as a CNA they will follow the CNA job description.Minimum qualifications:High School diploma preferred.Medical terminology preferred.Current Washington State Nursing Assistant Certified license required.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or must be obtained within 30 days of hire through American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent organization.One year computer experience, preferred. One year of recent experience as a unit secretary/ward clerk or in a similar position. Telemetry experience desired.Multi-line telephone, computer, ten-key, copy and fax machines.Primary job responsibilities:Serves as Acute Care, Skilled and Custodial Swing Unit Secretary- includes reception, appointments, telephone, and information duties.Directs and/or transports patients for clinic visits, diagnostic testing, hospital admits, etc.Provide comfort and compassion to all patients, according to patient’s level of understanding.Lead distraught family members and/or friends to quiet room for privacy. Serves as conduit between Hospital patients and others.Provide comfort and compassion to patient’s family, friends, etc., and keep them informed of new developments.Answer phones in courteous, professional manner.Copies and distributes medical records, as required.Keeps work area neat and clean.Assists with staffing schedule and call-ins as needed.Assemble charts for all admits/break down charts upon discharge.Inform Admitting of any admits and patient status changes as needed (especially room changes).Maintenance of file cabinets i.e. all necessary forms are available and well organized and stocked.Assist in facility transfers i.e. paperwork completion, phone calls to AMR, etc.Assist as necessary with any staffing problems/call off or call in based upon Charge Nurse decision.Send faxes for the nurses and physicians as needed i.e. orders needed, patient status, lab results.Medical Record correspondence for ER and inpatients as needed.Assist with making follow-up clinic appointments for patients.Prepares and distributes departmental mail, in-house and out of facility.Pass and gather patient meal trays.Complete daily's and ensure that accurate staffing is reflected.Notify Admissions if a provider signs a patient over to another provider or if their status changes.Other duties as assigned.Certified Nursing Assistant- When staffing dictates that the HUC needs to work as CNA they will follow the CNA job description in Lucidoc.Standard for portrayal of mission and values:Employee demonstrates and fosters the Lewis County Hospital District No. 1 core values of - One team, on Mission.
