POSITION SUMMARY:

Engage in positive behaviors that make members feel welcome, connected and confident in their choice to be at the YMCA.  Your position is essential to the accomplishment of overall YMCA goals.  All levels of staff need to put the YMCA mission at the focus of everything they do; your impact to our organization and community goes far beyond just someone “who works here.”

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.  Must be comfortable in teaching all age groups (parent/child, preschool, youth, school age, adult and those with developmental disabilities).
• Attend staff and committee meetings as needed or directed by your supervisor.  Demonstrate support for the YMCA by participating in special events.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.  Complete incident and accident reports as necessary. 
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA
• Must be currently certified in CPR and First Aid or will acquire certifications within 30 days of employment
• A positive, friendly attitude and strong interpersonal skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds occasionally
• Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally
• Must be able to stay in the pool for an extended period of time

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/TRAINING

·        Child Abuse Prevention – pre-hire and Annual Refresher

·        Y Cause and Culture – within first 30 days 

·       Basic Life Support, Adult and Pediatric First Aid and Emergency Use of Medical Oxygen – within first 30 days

·       YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor – based on class availability
