Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN)

Critical care registered nurses provide specialized care to patients experiencing severe medical issues, including heart attacks, strokes, shock, trauma, and respiratory distress. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the safety and recovery of critically ill patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessing patient conditions and developing individualized care plans
  • Treating wounds and administering advanced life support
  • Assisting physicians with medical procedures
  • Observing and recording vital signs
  • Ensuring the proper functioning of medical equipment, including ventilators and monitors
  • Administering intravenous fluids and medications
  • Performing suctioning as needed
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in critical care settings
  • Responding promptly to life-threatening situations using established nursing protocols
  • Acting as an advocate for patients
  • Providing education and support to patients and their families

Qualifications

  • Must possess current ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Texas RN or multi-state RN license is required

Critical care nurses may also be involved in caring for pre- and post-operative patients. Additionally, they may assume roles in case management, policy formation, and administrative tasks as needed during peak operational periods.
