Assistant Project Manager

Company Description Butler Sheet Metal & Mechanical LLC is a full-service HVAC contractor and metal fabrication shop serving both commercial and residential clients. The team provides installation, replacement, maintenance, and troubleshooting for a wide range of HVAC equipment. The in-house shop fabricates custom metal products, including ductwork, kitchen hoods, fences, gates, and other specialty items. Role Description The Assistant Project Manager will support the planning, coordination, and execution of HVAC and metal fabrication projects from initiation through completion. This full-time, on-site role is based in Albuquerque, NM, and works closely with project managers, field technicians, shop personnel, and vendors. Daily responsibilities include tracking project schedules, assisting with material orders, coordinating deliveries, and helping ensure that work progresses according to plan, specifications, and safety standards. The role involves maintaining project documentation, preparing status updates, and supporting inspections and quality checks as needed. The Assistant Project Manager will also help resolve day-to-day issues in the field and shop, communicate with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement of project processes. Additional opportunities for learning include estimating, billing, field layout and engineering, materials takeoff and ordering and meeting with project owners / agencies. Qualifications Experience or demonstrated ability in project coordination and Project Management within construction, HVAC, or mechanical trades. Skills in acting as an Expeditor and performing Expediting tasks to move materials, information, and approvals efficiently. Knowledge of Logistics Management , including scheduling deliveries, tracking shipments, and coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors. Familiarity with Inspection processes, jobsite walk-throughs, and basic quality and safety checks. Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities. Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with field teams, office staff, and clients. Comfort reading or learning to read basic drawings, blueprints, and specifications for HVAC and metal fabrication work. Proficiency with common office and project tools (e.g., email, spreadsheets, project tracking software); willingness to learn company‑specific systems. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field (or equivalent field experience). Ability to work on-site in Albuquerque, NM, including occasional visits to jobsites and fabrication areas while following safety protocols.
