Hazardous Cargo Shipment Inspector

Inspects hazardous materials, explosives, ammunition, special cargo documentation and packaging in accordance with applicable DoD, AF, AMC and civilian directives. Performs comprehensive inventories ensuring the protection of resources and executes a broad range of specific storage assignments as directed by AF and civilian directives. Performs tasks involved in receiving and shipping items. Consolidates and palletizes air outbound hazardous, explosive, ammunition, and other shipments requiring special handling. Drives one or more types of vehicles/equipment, such as pickup, panel, and flatbed trucks, which typically have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less.

As required, may train and/or guide other personnel in performance of special material handling duties. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of the position. Employee must be able to communicate effectively in English, both spoken and in writing. May handle heavier items with weight lifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift/carry weights up to 40 pounds. Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering and tilting forklift trucks. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration of forklift trucks. Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire. This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available. This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased or early release.
