Associate Pastor

Shepherd Staff is honored to be working with Morton Methodist Church in Morton, Illinois as they search for their next Family Minister. Morton Methodist Church is an independent, growing Methodist congregation seeking a revival of true Methodism through Wesleyan practices-especially rule-of-life discipleship in small "Method Groups"-in order to encounter the Living God through worship, discipleship, and missions.

Morton is seeking a ministry generalist who understands the "why" behind its ministry approach. The pastoral team is prepared to remain flexible, share responsibilities, and ensure every ministry need is covered. The right person will bring a collaborative spirit, a willingness to serve wherever needed, and specific strengths that complement the existing tea

The ideal candidate will be:

• Warm, approachable, and "there you are" oriented -someone who naturally initiates with people of all ages.
• Deeply Wesleyan in theology and practice , aligned with Morton Methodist's grace-centered, Methodist identity and culture, and able to avoid divisive theological or culture-war postures. You don't have to come from that tradition, but you do need to align with it.
• Pastoral and have a heart for the flock. Someone who is able to shepherd and counsel parishioners well.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Associate Pastor will help to fulfill the mission of MMC by working alongside our Directing and Associate Pastors to develop outreach and mission opportunities that engage the church and community. This Role is intended to be a Generalist role that will serve in various ministry areas across the life of the church in accordance with their gifts and the church's needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership:

• Discipleship: Work with the Pastors in providing training and coaching to adults so that an active disciple-making culture thrives.
• Team Focus: Coordinating with and helping the other Pastors in the teaching, equipping, and coaching

of believers to engage their whole lives in discipleship.
• Pastoral Care and Counseling: Be available for pastoral care and counseling needs. (Counseling,

hospital visits, funerals, and premarital counseling).

Programming:

• Work with the Directing and Associate Pastors to develop a comprehensive discipleship strategy, maximizing the unique gifts of each in their respective ministry areas.

Administration:

• Serve as the staff representative to the Missions Committee.
• Depending on the specific areas of responsibility, various administrative duties will be assigned.
