Adjunct Pool – Mathematics Department, including Data Science and Statistics Position Title: Adjunct Pool – Mathematics Department, including Data Science and Statistics Location: Thousand Oaks University Background Cal Lutheran is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and McNair Institution, dedicated to engaging students from diverse, multicultural backgrounds. Basic Function Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair or Program Director, the Adjunct Faculty Member is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Representative Duties Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities and higher-order thinking through assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance-mediated settings. Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services as appropriate. Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes; provide timely feedback to student inquiries in class, online, or during office hours. Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department and university mission/goals. Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, academic progress, curriculum, and outcomes; prepare and submit related data and reports promptly. Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials per campus bookstore procedures. Perform related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Ability Current theory and practice within the subject discipline. Principles and best practices of effective teaching. Demonstrate thorough and accurate knowledge of the subject field. Deliver curriculum in various learning styles. Show sensitivity to diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Address needs of students with disabilities. Integrate current and emerging instructional technologies into the learning process. Maintain professional standards that protect student confidentiality. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with tact, patience, and courtesy. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a master’s degree from a recognized institution or equivalent experience and professional recognition. Preferred Qualifications: None. Physical Abilities Manual dexterity to operate office equipment; speaking to exchange information; sitting or standing for extended periods; pushing, pulling or lifting light objects; bending and reaching to retrieve files.
