How you'll contribute A Nurse Extern who excels in this role: Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary patient care team to support safe, high‑quality patient care. Provides direct patient care under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Monitors, records, and communicates patient conditions and observations to the supervising RN. Documents patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner. Assists patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, nutrition, elimination, and ambulation. Assists with patient transfers, admissions, discharges, and other patient care activities as appropriate. Provides patient and family education based on age, culture, developmental level, and identified learning needs. Advocates for the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well‑being of patients. Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and critical thinking while functioning within the Nurse Extern scope of practice. Participates in departmental performance improvement, safety, and quality initiatives. Assists with orientation and training activities as assigned. Participates in required meetings, educational programs, and competency validations. Performs other duties as assigned. What we're looking for Applicants should be a third‑year nursing student or higher and be enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing. Additional requirements include: Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire. Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with independently with appropriate supervision. Must be able to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑stress clinical environment. Experience: One‑year previous experience preferred. Licenses: Must have a current Tennessee or compact state RN license. Education: Associate's degree required. BSN preferred.
