Major Responsibilities Interpret physician referrals and conduct speech and language evaluations for patients with speech, language, voice, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Establish a written plan of care and implement individualized treatments based on evaluation results and functional goals. Monitor and evaluate outcomes, adjust treatment plans accordingly, and provide status updates to physicians and team members. Identify factors affecting patients’ physical and psychosocial comfort and attend to these needs. Plan for and complete patient discharge, including written home programs, patient/family teaching, referrals for community services, transition planning, and equipment ordering. Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve optimal patient care. Complete all required documentation per department policy and accreditation standards (evaluations, progress notes, conference reports, discharge summaries). Record patient care and progress for each assigned patient; complete daily statistics, billing, and scheduling. Apply insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits, and maintain department productivity standards. Clean up after patient treatment, put away equipment, and keep area neat. Perform manual techniques, patient positioning, and transport duties, requiring proper lifting and moving techniques. Demonstrate skill in using modalities, exercise equipment, and other devices per department orientation. Know indications and contraindications of modalities and promote patient safety. Participate in performance improvement activities to improve patient care outcomes. Manage assigned caseload and inform site leadership of coverage needs. Pursue professional growth through continuing education, department in‑services, and professional literature. Orient new staff to clinical and department policies as requested. Participate in evaluating co‑workers and provide feedback as requested. May supervise non‑licensed personnel, delegating patients while maintaining responsibility for care plans. Support the student clinical education program by monitoring, observing, and directing at least one student per year. Minimum Job Requirements Education: Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited school or equivalent educational requirements. Certification / Registration / License: Licensed Speech Language Pathologist in the state of employment; BLS for Healthcare Providers (within 90 days of employment unless otherwise determined); Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA or eligibility for a Clinical Fellowship Year. Work Experience: No experience required. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Intermediate computer skills; excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; decision‑making and problem‑solving skills; competency in patient care assessments; annual educational requirements for hospital‑based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF). Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat throughout the workday; lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist; lift 10 lbs. from waist to overhead; lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height; push/pull with 30 lbs. of force; perform sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person; repetitive use of hands (simple grasping 5‑15 lbs. 20% of the day; pushing/pulling 75‑100 lbs. 10% of the day); fine manipulation during massage and joint mobilization; functional use of senses for communication; exposure to electrical, chemical hazards, blood, and body fluids; may require travel.
