Tooling Machinist

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Perform skilled level work in the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of metal parts and tools with a high degree of accuracy and precision in accordance with instructions and specifications. Assisting maintenance and manufacturing personnel as necessary in order to maintain Sunshine Minting's production capabilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Fabricates, maintains, and repairs objects through the operation of lathes, milling machines and drill presses, as well as operating and programming CNC machines, EDM machines and similar equipment
• Ability to read and interpret part specifications from blueprints and drawings
• Measures work carefully and accurately by using precision tools
• Uses, adjusts, cleans, and stores the tools, machinery, and equipment
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
• Ability to demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance
• Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Visualize parts or equipment that need to be made from rough sketches and oral instructions
• Use graphic instructions such as blueprints, sketches, or other visual aids
• Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time
• Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting
• Lifting objects up to 50 pounds may be required
• Must be able to stand, bend and kneel continually while performing tasks
• Must be able to use hands and arms continuously
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and remain focused at all times
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team; interact appropriately with others
• Ability to be read, write, and communicate effectively

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience as a skilled machinist and completion of a recognized machinist apprenticeship program, or five years of experience as a skilled machinist or equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend or kneel. The employee is continuously required to use hands and arms to reach, finger, handle, or feel objects and controls. The employee is regularly required to walk, talk and hear.
The employee must regularly lift 30 pounds and occasionally lift 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

As a Machinist, an employee will work in a cool to extremely hot environment, dependent upon project. There is exposure to fuels, oils, cleaning solvents and fumes from machinery. Safety glasses must be worn at all times while in the Maintenance area and while working on machinery. The noise level in the work environment varies depending upon project, hearing protection is required. Additional safety equipment may be required.
