Registered Nurse (RN)

This position involves providing comprehensive care in a dynamic emergency department environment. The Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for managing patient care, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and utilizing advanced medical technologies to address a variety of patient needs.

Unit Information

• Beds: 32
• Average Patient Census: 90-110 patients daily

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 2+ years of emergency department experience for traditional travelers
• Minimum of 4 years of experience for Clinical Advanced Practitioners
• First-time travelers are not accepted

Patient Types and Diagnoses

• Common complaints include abdominal pain, chest pain, shortness of breath, behavioral health concerns, and geriatric issues.
• Rare pediatric cases and occasional labor and delivery transfers may occur.

Patient Ratios

• Registered Nurse to patient ratio: 1:4
• Patient Care Technician to patient ratio: 1:6-12

Required Certifications and Skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
• Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
• Strong general emergency department skills
• Effective communication skills and time management abilities
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Support Within the Department

• Patient Care Technicians and Receptionists are available 24/7
• Hospitalist and respiratory therapists are on-site 24/7
• Emergency department doctors and mid-level providers are always present

Technology and Equipment

• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Medication dispensing: Pyxis

Orientation and Training

• General hospital orientation followed by 1-2 shifts on the unit
• Additional 2-3 shifts to learn unit flow before pairing with a resident
• Clinical Advanced Practitioners will work independently for 2-3 weeks before resident pairing

Scheduling and Shift Details

• Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
• Shift options include morning, mid, and evening hours
• General schedule cycles occur every four weeks
• Scrub color: Any
• Free parking available
