Interpreter/Translator Aide QUALIFICATIONS:
To provide interpretations to the deaf or hard-of-hearing student(s). PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Training in speech pathology or communication disorders.
- Be a member in good standing of the National Registry for Interpreters for the Deaf
- Ability to implement behavioral plans and execute duties related to the goals and objectives of the plan.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with administration, principals, teachers, and parents to ensure the implementation of the Individual Education Plan.
- Ability to observe and execute duties consistent with that of the special education teachers.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret both oral and written directives relevant to instructional procedures and other classroom activities.
- Possession of effective skills in both oral and written communication to assist and compliment the special education teacher in program implementation.
- Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed.
To provide interpretations to the deaf or hard-of-hearing student(s). PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interprets or transliterates messages from an auditory to a visual system so that the student can understand, whether it be American sign language, signing exact English, oral interpreting or cued speech.
- Interprets or transliterates messages from a visual system to a spoken English.
- Determines the student's most appropriate mode of communication and delivers messages in that mode.
- Collaborates with teachers working with a deaf or hard-of-hearing child concerning language assessment and development.
- Is familiar with technology related to deafness such as hearing aids and auditory training systems.
- Teaches other professionals and/or normally hearing students the visual system used by the dead or hard-of-hearing student(s) in that particular school.
- Maintains appropriate physical health including rest periods and exercises for hands and arms.
- Demonstrates professional conduct as outlined in the Code of Ethics by the National Registry for Interpreters for the Deaf.
