Patient Services Assistant - Perinatal Associates

Education & Experience High School or GED equivalency. Minimum 6 months of related experience. Skills & Knowledge Strong customer service skills. Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred). Excellent written and oral communication. Ability to perform non‑complex arithmetic calculations. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks. Ability to manage multiple tasks and phone volume simultaneously. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, and pay close attention to detail. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Receive and screen visitors and telephone calls. Respond to general inquiries by referencing established policies and procedures. Provide customer service to patients by relaying information about the Medical Center and reminding patients of appointments. Schedule patient appointments, perform data entry of patient demographic information and insurance. Verify insurance information and obtain referrals as required prior to the patient’s visit. Assist patients with registration for MyChart. Manage high volume of telephone calls and generate telephone encounters from patient calls, routing to providers for review and follow up. Address all telephone messages by end of day. Perform pre‑registration and confirmation of patient appointments prior to the date of service. Check in patients, verify insurance, collect and scan identification and insurance cards. Manage referral work queues and schedule patient appointments from active referrals. Manage incoming faxes, route results and correspondence to appropriate provider or staff, and scan incoming medical records to patient’s MRN. Respond to and close out In‑Basket messages from patients and providers daily. Respond to EPIC Secure chats as appropriate. Collect patient co‑payments, fees and outstanding balances, perform simple arithmetic calculations, reconcile all monies collected and make deposits. Assist with scheduling diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures according to restrictions of HMO’s, PPO’s, and MCO’s. Ensure patients are notified and receive appropriate information regarding scheduled tests and procedures. Obtain referrals and pre‑authorization for procedures by calling insurance companies or generating electronic requests. Perform other duties as assigned. Benefits Pay Range: $17.30 – $25.11 per hour.
