THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client, an established North American building materials distributor is putting targeted investment behind the San Diego market, and they are looking for the right salesperson to lead that growth. The territory is already producing. There have established customers, steady revenue, repeat orders, and long-standing relationships. What has been missing is someone on the ground. San Diego has historically been managed remotely, and there is a significant amount of untapped business sitting within the region. With targeted focus, they require a Territory Sales Representative based in the San Diego area who can get closer to existing customers, uncover new opportunities, open doors, and build a much bigger presence across the region. You will not be starting from scratch, and you are not walking into a tapped-out, over-Rep'd territory. You will have a solid book of business to build from, combined with considerable white space for growth. Supporting you is an in-demand product range, strong inventory, established business infrastructure, developed supplier relationships, and all the required resources of a major national distributor. In front of you is a market with significant untapped potential and the opportunity to build something substantial. THE ROLE

The Territory Sales Rep will take responsibility for growing sales and profitability throughout the San Diego territory, working with both existing customers and new prospects to build an ongoing pipeline of sales opportunities. Role Focus; Establish deeper relationships with existing accounts to identify and mine for opportunities to increase share of their business Develop new customers and expand the company's presence throughout the San Diego market Spend time in the field meeting customers, understanding their businesses, and identifying where the company can provide solutions Prospecting and developing relationships with contractors, fabricators, manufacturers, dealers, millwork businesses, and other relevant customers Become knowledgeable across the company's product offering and helping customers identify the right products for their applications Provide pricing, quotations, product information, and ongoing account support Identify market trends, competitive activity, and new opportunities within the territory Work closely with internal sales, operations, warehouse, and supplier partners to deliver a strong customer experience Maintain accurate account, opportunity, and activity information within Salesforce Manage the territory with a strong focus on profitable, sustainable growth

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an experienced sales professional who understands the building materials/industrial distribution market, and who enjoys being face to face with customers. Candidates with experience working for either a building materials distributor or manufacturer would be a strong fit for this opportunity. You do not need to come from one specific product category. We are interested in speaking with individuals who have sold a wide variety of interior building products, finishing materials, or related products into contractors, fabricators, dealers, manufacturers, or similar customers. Relevant backgrounds could include representing products such as; Interior surfacing materials, cabinets and cabinet components, decorative or functional hardware, molding & millwork products, coatings/adhesives/finishes, plumbing fixtures, countertops, architectural or specialty decorative surfaces, interior construction products, other related building materials products. You should bring proven B2B sales experience, strong relationship-building skills, curiosity and interest in the industry, and the ability to develop new business rather than simply manage an existing book of accounts. Most importantly, you will be someone who wants ownership of a market. You are comfortable getting out from behind the desk, meeting customers, opening doors, asking good questions, and building relationships that turn into long-term business. You are incentive by a strong commission plan.

You will inherit an established territory, but the opportunity is to take it significantly further, with a strong incentive plan that rewards you for the growth you create. You will also be joining an established building materials distribution organization with national scale, strong supplier relationships, operational infrastructure, internal pathways for development, and the resources to support your success.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base Salary will depend on experience, but will fall in the range $90,000 to $110,000 + variable commission & incentives. Package also includes 401(k) matching, comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits, Paid time off. This role requires very limited overnight travel. However, as a field-based sales position, you will be driving throughout the San Diego territory on a daily basis to meet with customers and develop new business. A company vehicle and gas card will be provided, and candidates must hold a valid driver’s license with no restrictions that would prevent them from fulfilling the driving requirements of the role.
