Description: This facility is a 457 licensed bed trauma level III teaching hospital. It is recognized as a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center of Excellence. The facility operates a Bariatric Center of Excellence. The unit requires a minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience. First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered. Common patient types include trauma cases such as gunshot wounds, stabbings, motor vehicle accidents, falls, strokes, heart failure, and chest pain. Other conditions include patients requiring fluid resuscitation or blood products, COPD, ETOH/CIWA, and various mental health issues. The unit has a maximum patient ratio of 1:5, depending on acuity. Required skills for the Emergency Department RN include trauma experience, stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, conscious sedation, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and critical care drip management. Support within the department includes clinical aides and charge nurses available 24/7. Constant availability of respiratory therapists and hospitalists contributes to patient care. Floating to other facilities may be required based on regional needs and scope of practice. There are no call requirements for travelers, and holiday work is expected at 75%. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays, with the requirement to add time to the end of the contract if contractual hours cannot be met. The facility has a uniform dress code requiring navy scrubs.
