Machine Shop Supervisor

Job Type: Full-Time Shift: Day or Night Shift

Position Summary

We are seeking a First Line Manager to provide leadership and direction for our manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the shop floor, developing employees, maintaining accountability, and ensuring a safe, organized, and productive work environment.

The successful candidate will be a strong people leader who can balance operational execution with employee development while driving continuous improvement through Lean principles and modern manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop production employees, skilled trades personnel, and support staff to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
  • Manage day-to-day manufacturing operations by prioritizing work, coordinating resources, and ensuring customer commitments are met.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement while maintaining high standards for safety, attendance, and performance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching discussions, corrective actions, and other supervisory responsibilities in a fair, consistent, and professional manner.
  • Address employee concerns, resolve workplace conflicts, and provide clear expectations, constructive feedback, and recognition to support employee engagement and development.
  • Enforce company policies, safety procedures, and operational standards while promoting a positive and productive work environment.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on eliminating waste, improving workflow, increasing productivity, and enhancing operational performance.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and company software systems to communicate effectively, analyze operational data, monitor performance, and support decision-making.
  • Partner with operations leadership to build a highly engaged, well-organized, and continuously improving manufacturing team.

Preferred

  • Associate's degree in Business, Management, Manufacturing, Organizational Leadership, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, team lead, military leadership, or management experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing, machining, fabrication, welding, industrial operations, or another skilled trades environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, the Toyota Production System, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

Required Skills

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to coach employees, hold team members accountable, and effectively manage difficult conversations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams, along with the ability to learn new software systems and digital tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, employee development, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and create a positive, high-performance work environment.
