Medical Lab Tech, Supervisor

2nd/3rd Shift SupervisorIn accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Supervisor, Laboratory is responsible for day-to-day supervision of assigned section(s), ensuring that specimens are collected and received according to policy, and that tests are run and reported expeditiously following all quality assurance standards, policies and procedures. The Supervisor, Laboratory shares in the workload of the respective section(s) and focuses on professional development and growth for colleagues and self.Education: Baccalaureate MLS or Associate degree MLTLicensure / Certification: Certification in laboratory related field required for off shift and site supervisors. Certification in laboratory preferred for specimen processing and/or phlebotomy supervisor positions. ASCP CertificationExperience: Minimum of two years relevant section(s) experience preferred.Effective Communication SkillsHighly motivated and self-directed.Ability to relate to all aspects of health care team and can function in multiple situations.Ability to coordinate and supervise all activities of a department section(s) or an entire shift.Ability to travel to multiple work sites as needed.Exhibits each of the Mount Carmel Service Excellence Behavior Standards holding self and others accountable and role modeling excellence for all to see. Maintains and evaluates resource utilization and productivity. Participates in the hiring and termination process.Education and Training - Participates in planning and facilitating educational opportunities for better patient care, self-development, and utilization of available organizational services.Customer Service - Establishes, maintains, and improves strong positive relationships with the medical staff, the public, other Mount Carmel Health departments and own department staff.Works in collaboration to identify and implement opportunities for improvement in laboratory programs and systems with particular reference to service delivery, scheduling, user information and satisfaction, performance improvement and cost containment. Participates in the development and implementation of the laboratories Performance Improvement Program.Participates in meetings with the laboratory management team and conducts regular communication meetings with laboratory personnel in assigned areas of responsibility.Works with colleagues to steward resourcesParticipates in outside professional activities including seminars and professional memberships, attends unit and department meetings as required.Motivates, coaches, and leads colleagues for maximum teamwork, quality, and productivity.Must demonstrate and maintain skill and competency in all areas of assigned section(s).Performs the functions of colleagues in their assigned section(s) as needed.Works with all members of the laboratory team to continually evaluate and provide recommendations for enhanced operational efficiencies and process improvement opportunitiesOutpatient Laboratory duties (if applicable)Courier check in – documents time of arrival of the couriers and the specimens submitted to the lab. Registration – performance of accurate and complete registration in Healthquest.Knows and understands Medicare/Medicaid/other third party information requirements and adheres to all third party regulations.Has a working knowledge of diagnosis codes.Is able to Scan / Upload documents into Chartmaxx.Performs accurate and complete ordering of tests in the LIS.Maintains knowledge of specific client ordering requirements.Receives Specimen Transfer Lists from the Service Centers.Resolves issues on the Pending Report.Creates the end of the night report for the management team.Other Job ResponsibilitiesMonitors automated time keeping system and attendance records.Monitors preparation of colleague work/call schedule.Monitors acquisition of adequate inventory levels.Responsible for compliance with Organizational Integrity through raising questions and promptly reporting actual or potential wrongdoing.All other duties as assigned.Our CommitmentRooted in our Mission and Core Values, we honor the dignity of every person and recognize the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
