Job Goals: An employee in this position will ensure high quality, safe, and effective Driver Education programs that establish a welcoming environment for all; and positively influence the students they work with. Qualifications and Attributes Valid North Carolina teaching license. Valid NC DMV Driver Education Instructor certificate or NCDPI STEP Program certificate. Duties and Responsibilities Maintain or acquire all necessary Driver Education prerequisites annually or as they expire listed by NCDPI, NC DMV, & Johnston County Public Schools. Ensure that the policies of the Driver Education Policy Manual are adhered to by the (class or driving) instructors working in your school. Justify the time sheets with The Instructional Permits/Yellow DE Certificates that are turned in for payroll each month. Maintain the integrity of the program by visiting (and evaluating if asked) each teacher’s class in your program. Ensure that every class will always have a teacher to teach and supervise the class, even if it means that you cover the class. Meet deadlines for quarterly reports and monthly timesheets. Assist in maintenance request as needed for your instructors vehicles. Maintain a current file of the students who need to drive in your program and a system for checking the students out to drive. Maintain a process for issuing and receiving completed RIPs. Maintain a current list of students who have completed the Alive @ 25 program and file the list with the appropriate person at your school throughout the year and file complete lists at the end of the year. Develop a calendar of the classes to be taught for the year and get it approved by administration. Contact guest speakers. (Law enforcement only). Develop the program for the Parent/Student meeting and make the announcement at your school for each class. Assign the students and teachers to the Driver Education class and provide the teachers with a roster for the class. Always meet (or have a designee to meet) the instructor of the Alive @ 25 class, provide a roster for the class, and remain until all equipment is working. Maintain an accurate record of the textbooks and videos for Driver Education at your school. Maintain and advocate if your schools program needs anything from form copies to additional support. Design your annual program to complete at least 70% of your school’s 9th grade enrollment. Understand and help staff understand that a position in the program is a county based and assigned position. Locations are driven by overall student needs across all schools in the district and subject to change. Maintain the school based webpage for your school’s program. Additional duties and responsibilities assigned by the Coordinator or Director of the program. Physical Requirements Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work. Must possess the physical ability and visual acuity to operate required equipment and motor vehicles, use measuring devices, and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions.
