VP of Operations

Summary: Sheridan , a leader in the books, journals, magazines, catalogs and commercial print markets, has an immediate opening for a highly motivated and accomplished Vice President of Operations in its Liberty, MO facility. In this role you'll oversee plant performance and assume P&L responsibilities for a financially successful manufacturing facility of about 250 employees. You will ensure the facility safely delivers high quality output on time, efficiently and at the best cost structure. This facility plays an important role in our manufacturing network by contributing significantly to our business earnings. The successful candidate will distinguish themself from other applicants by their confident demeanor, "can do" attitude, unrelenting drive and innate ability to command respect, make decisions and lead.

Responsibilities:

• Assess and leverage plant resources to meet or exceed all KPI's, most importantly safety, quality, productivity, waste reduction and budget.
• Set overall plant policies and procedures to ensure effective operations consistent with company business systems, process and values.
• Drive continuous improvement within the facility; lead and direct cost/operational improvement projects; achieve productivity targets. Develop and utilize metrics and benchmarking for measuring/improving performance. Understand the drivers of financial performance of the facility and manage the inputs and outputs that drive profitability and EBITDA improvement.
• Lead all site manufacturing processes and teams to meet or exceed daily, weekly, monthly and mid- to long-term goals on a consistent basis, identify efficiency issues and propose solutions.
• Full responsibility for operations and production in the facility to meet customer schedule requirements.
• Manage the Account Planners and Account Managers assigned to the facility to meet customer expectations, quality and service.
• Partner with the estimating team and be aligned with the financial profitability of the work being estimated for the plant. Understand the profitability of customer accounts within the facility compared to estimate and driving improvements. Partner with the finance team to understand this analysis.
• Play an active role in plant recruiting, employee relations and performance management
• Direct and mentor the plant leadership team in the performance of their respective roles consistent with the company leadership Assess, upgrade and develop plant leadership capabilities
• Build and lead a strong culture of engagement at all levels.
• Partner with HR to drive recruiting and employee engagement in the facility and to assess, upgrade, and develop high-potential talent.
• Interact with senior customer contacts to represent the business and work with sales to identify client retention by maintaining executive- and senior-level relationships and identifying additional new growth opportunities with existing clients
• Lead strategic planning efforts to enhance profitability, productivity and efficiency in alignment with company direction
• Safeguard all company assets, including intellectual property, against theft and/or damage through effective employee training, testing and certification programs and strict enforcement of company security and plant policies
• Safeguard the health and safety of all employees and drive the safety culture within the facility through strict compliance with all company, OSHA, state, local and federal rules and regulations.
• Work with Sheridan leadership on plant capital expenditures and justifications.
• Foster an inclusive and collaborative culture across the business.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a minimum of 15 years of operations leadership experience in a fast paced, high volume manufacturing production environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience leading Lean/Continuous Improvement programs in a production environment
• Hands-on management skills - desire to take ownership, technically sound, highly driven, proven decision-making abilities, and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
• Logical problem-solving skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with, relate to and motivate all employees
• Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills, advanced level preferred
• Positive and enthusiastic "out of the box" thinker with a strong desire to grow the business
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and build a consensus in fast paced environment
• Acts as a business partner; sees the big picture and works through ambiguity and change

Desired Skills and Abilities:

• Prior industry experience is a plus but not required.
• Advanced level of Microsoft Office 365 skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Work is partially performed in an office environment with no exposure to elements, but some time is spent in the plant with exposure to dust, dirt, noise, fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals. Job requires frequent sitting and walking and moderate physical effort.
• Walking: Must be able to walk as some tasks require walking.
• Standing: Must be able to stand on a concrete floor for some tasks.
• Lifting/Carrying: Must be able to lift and carry signatures weighing up to 10 lbs. for inspections.
• Sitting: Some tasks allow for sitting - usually for more than one hour/day.

Travel Requirements

• Occasional travel for company meetings, customer visits, etc.
• May require occasional overnight stay.
