Senior Software Engineer

Role Description

Akkio is the AI infrastructure that powers agentic workflows across media companies. By running on-premises within agency cloud environments and sitting directly on top of data, Akkio enables organizations to productionize AI at enterprise scale, automating campaign workflows while maintaining complete security and governance control.

We hire senior software engineers into four areas of focus: backend, full stack, data, and infrastructure. Most of what makes an engineer great at Akkio is the same across all four — the specialty is where you'll go deepest, not a box you'll stay in. Whatever your focus, you'll build the systems behind customer-facing AI agents running in production at the world's largest media agencies. This role is built for owners. Requirements at a fast-moving AI startup are rarely fully defined and often shift as we learn from customers. We're looking for someone who treats that as the fun part: someone who takes a partially-shaped problem, drives it to a well-shaped solution, and ships a great product without waiting for a full spec. You'll have direct influence on technical direction, and your work will land in production at agencies serving the world's biggest brands.

What you'll do

• Own complex technical projects end-to-end, from ambiguous problem statement through architecture, build, deployment, and iteration in production.
• Multiply your output with agentic coding and help raise the bar for how the whole team builds with agents.
• Design systems that scale with our partner base while improving reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Implement security and compliance measures that protect sensitive partner data.
• Set engineering standards for code quality and testing in an agent-assisted codebase, and mentor teammates on both.
• Work directly with engineers, data scientists, and customer teams, and communicate clearly with stakeholders as requirements evolve.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of solving hard technical problems.
• Deeply integrated AI coding into your daily workflow; agents are your default way of building.
• Thrive on ownership: repeatedly taken loosely defined or shifting requirements and delivered great products.
• Experience building and debugging large-scale production systems.
• Strong background with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, and/or Azure) and modern DevOps practices.
• Strong bias to execution coupled with high engineering standards and attention to detail.

Your specialty

• Backend: Build the server-side systems that power our AI platform: APIs behind customer-facing agents, model deployment and inference infrastructure, and large-scale processing of media and audience data.
• Full stack web: Build the interfaces where agency teams interact with AI agents, explore data, and ship campaign work.
• Data: Build the pipelines and data foundations our platform runs on: high-volume ingestion from partner systems, transformation and modeling for AI workloads, and the analytics architecture behind audience and campaign intelligence.
• Infrastructure: Build the systems that let our platform run inside our partners' own cloud environments at enterprise scale.

Bonus points

• Public artifacts of your agentic workflow: CLAUDE.md/AGENTS.md context files in your repos, published MCP servers, agent co-authored commit history, or writing about how you build with agents.
• Hands-on experience building with large language models: evals, tool use, agent orchestration, or LLM-powered product features.
• Depth in a second specialty from the list above.
• Understanding of security best practices for handling sensitive data.
• Previous early-stage startup experience.

• Compensation: Competitive salary range depending on experience, plus substantial equity grants.
