Non-Certified Police Officer

Role Overview Full‑time Non‑Certified Police Trainee. Trainees must complete the Police Academy and the Florida State Police exam; upon successful completion they will be promoted to Certified Police Officer. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patrol streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to detect crime, traffic violations, and other incidents requiring police action. Write reports, field interrogation cards, and other documentation as required. Conduct preliminary investigations of crimes, crashes, incidents, and other law violations. Respond to routine, emergency, or difficult calls for service; may also initiate a call for service during patrol. Interview and/or interrogate suspects, witnesses, and drivers involved in crimes or crashes. Gather and preserve physical evidence. Make arrests or take persons into custody in accordance with federal, state, county, and city laws. Prepare cases for court presentation and testify when required. Summon paramedics, tow trucks, other law enforcement officers, and other assistance as appropriate. Take measurements and draw diagrams of scenes such as crashes. Conduct follow‑up investigations as policy and manpower allow. Accept responsibility for work product; resolve conflict and defuse tense situations when possible. Prepare various reports and records (investigation reports, field interrogation reports, property receipts, alcohol reports, etc.). Maintain normal availability by radio, laptop, or telephone for dispatch to emergencies or service calls. Carry and demonstrate competence with a firearm and less lethal devices at all times while on duty and for off‑duty details. Carry out duties in accordance with accepted police procedures and policy to ensure personal safety and safety of fellow officers. Coordinate activities with other officers or City departments and exchange information with other agencies. Maintain departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities; report missing or damaged items to supervisor. Maintain contact with the general public, court officials, and other City officials. Serve as a member of various employee committees, if required. Perform other duties as assigned or necessary. Required Documents with Application Transcripts reflecting a minimum of 60 college credits that include general studies or a high school diploma/GED with two years of U.S. military service. Physical agility test results. FBAT* results. Swim test results. General Qualifications Minimum age of 21 years. Valid Florida driver’s license with no record of DUI, suspension, or revocation in any state. U.S. citizen. Good physical condition and ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph, psychological, medical, and drug screen. Ability to read and write in English. Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealing with a variety of people. Ability to use mobile or hand‑held radio and related communication equipment. Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain objectivity in decision making. Good moral character without felony conviction, or misdemeanor convictions for perjury or false statement. Applicants residing in Miami‑Dade, Broward, Monroe, or Palm Beach counties must pass a full physical agility test (modified agility not accepted) and a swim test prior to application. Outside‑county applicants must pass both tests as part of the second phase of background investigation. Education and Experience Must have a minimum of 60 completed college credits that include general studies; or a high school diploma/GED combined with at least two years of U.S. military service with an honorable discharge. Special Requirements Successful completion of required Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) or CJSTC and/or School of Justice requirements, including Police Academy, FBAT, and any other applicable tests or requirements. All applicants must submit FBAT results prior to application, unless they are military veterans or hold an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution. Out‑of‑state applicants must submit a written statement acknowledging the requirement for a physical agility and swim test to be completed at a later date. Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation, polygraph, psychological, medical, and drug screen. Must be able to complete a physical agility test within the last six months prior to application as administered by a certified FDLE training center. Must have successfully completed a swim test administered by a certified FDLE training center; passing scores must be submitted at the time of application. Physical and Performance Requirements Applicants must be in good physical condition, demonstrate competence with a firearm and less lethal devices, and be capable of performing duties that require strength, agility, and endurance. #J-18808-Ljbffr City Of Aventura
