Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems is seeking a Senior Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Sykesville, MD.The engineer hired will be responsible for implementing software features for disparate hardware components and in a near real-time control system. The work will involve analysis, design, development, integration, debugging, and verification of software and drivers in C/C++. This person will collaborate with system knowledgeable engineers to develop flow down software requirements, technical specifications, and design documentation. This person will need support risk identification, suggest mitigation, track defects and develop resolutions, and report status. The person will also develop and execute unit tests and develop test plans and procedures for their work. Experience with the VxWorks operating system is a big plus.This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or another related STEM discipline with a minimum of 8 years of embedded software experience, or Master of Science in Computer Engineering or another related STEM discipline with a minimum of 6 years of embedded software experience, or PhD with a minimum of 4 years of embedded software experienceExcellent communication skills and ability to work in small teamsU.S. Citizen with an active Government Secret clearance or higherProficiency in C and C++ programming languagesProficiency with Object Oriented Design PrinciplesExperience with VxWorks operating system or other Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS)Experience with full software lifecycle i.e. requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, debug, and maintenanceAbility to work in a structured process-driven software development environment including peer reviews of all work products, use of revision control system, defect tracking, and software release best practicesPreferred Qualifications:Proficiency with system debugging and root cause analysisProficiency with DOORS or other requirements management tool and the ability to write, decompose, and manage system and software requirementsProficiency with Cameo or similar UML/SysML tool and the ability to read and author software design modelsExperience with system level integration, hardware interfacing, system controlsExperience with naval systems integration and network analysis toolsExperience in system architecture development and system designAbility to perform and document trade study analyses and reportsAbility to author and present technical materials to support of internal and customer briefingsAbility to develop and modify test plans and proceduresExperience supporting system Design Verification Testing (DVT) and System Acceptance Testing (SAT)
