Position Summary The Paraprofessional – Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct behavioral and instructional support to students under the supervision of certified special educators, behavior specialists, and/or BCBAs. The RBT implements behavior intervention plans, supports students with social‑emotional and academic needs, collects behavioral data, and assists in creating a safe, inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities Perform tasks under the Special Education teacher’s supervision across all school activities and instruction. Maintain classroom structure and behavioral control as directed. Assist the teacher in academic instruction as specified in students’ IEPs. Support inclusion activities for students in the general education setting. Assist with non‑academic instruction carried out by itinerant teachers. Correct student assignments, edit or clarify worksheets, enlarge general education worksheets as directed. Assist in therapy programs (physical, occupational, speech) only after prior training and a signed directive from the Office of the Director of Special Education. Assist physically challenged children with adaptive equipment, if trained. Supervise students before school, during recess, lunch, transportation, classroom, and at dismissal, including field trips. Administer school rules and regulations concerning student behavior. Perform other duties assigned by the principal or Director of Special Education. Assist in toileting and self‑care activities. Student Support and Behavior Intervention Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and support strategies from the team and BCBA. Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group behavioral and instructional support. Apply evidence‑based behavior management strategies grounded in ABA. Reinforce positive behaviors and support development of social, emotional, communication, and self‑regulation skills. Assist students during transitions and classroom routines. Support student engagement in academic, social, and community activities. Data Collection and Documentation Collect, record, and maintain accurate behavioral and instructional data. Monitor progress and communicate observations to supervising staff. Maintain confidentiality of student records. Assist in documenting student progress and behavioral trends. Collaboration and Communication Work collaboratively with teachers, BCBAs, related service providers, and administrators. Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development. Communicate effectively with staff regarding student needs and progress. Assist with implementing consistent behavioral supports across environments. Classroom and Safety Responsibilities Support implementation of classroom routines and structures. Assist with supervision during instructional and non‑instructional periods, including lunch, recess, field trips, and transitions. Follow district policies on student safety and crisis response. Implement de‑escalation and crisis prevention strategies as trained. Assist students with personal care needs when required. Other Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope of the position. Qualifications At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
