** TITLE: Legal Bill Review Specialist - Outside Counsel / Litigation

** LOCATION: Remote Role at 4 Irving Place, New York, NY 10003

** DURATION: 3-month contract with extensions based on performance

*** WORK SCHEDULE: Flexible, up to 30–35 hours per week

Pay Rate: $80.00/hr.
- $85.00/hr (depending upon experience)

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an experienced Outside Counsel Invoice Review Specialist to support the review, auditing, and management of legal invoices associated with litigation matters. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys analyzing legal bills, identifying billing inefficiencies, applying litigation billing guidelines, and helping organizations manage legal spend effectively.

You will work closely with legal and claims teams to review invoices from outside council and ensure that billing is accurate, reasonable, properly documented, and consistent with established guidelines.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Review, analyze, audit, and edit invoices submitted by outside counsel.
• Apply outside counsel billing guidelines and legal spend management practices.
• Identify excessive, duplicative, administrative, vague, block-billed, or otherwise non-compliant charges .
• Review timekeeper staffing and utilization to assess efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Recommend appropriate billing reductions and invoice adjustments.
• Evaluate billing patterns and identify opportunities for improved legal spend management.
• Communicate professionally with outside counsel regarding billing discrepancies and requested revisions.
• Maintain accurate records of invoice reviews, findings, adjustments, and reductions.
• Partner with legal and claims teams to promote consistent billing practices.
• Prepare reports and summaries related to legal spend, invoice activity, and billing compliance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Education : High School Diploma required.
• A licensed attorney with litigation experience, particularly insurance defense or general liability litigation;
  OR
• A senior claims professional/adjuster with substantial experience reviewing and managing outside counsel invoices;
  OR
• A legal operations, litigation management, or legal bill review professional with significant experience auditing outside counsel billing.
• Significant experience reviewing, auditing, editing, and/or approving outside counsel invoices .
• Strong knowledge of litigation billing guidelines and legal spend management .
• Understanding of common litigation activities and legal billing practices in New York .
• Experience with litigation matters involving premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, and/or general liability .
• Ability to identify unreasonable, excessive, duplicative, administrative, or non-compensable charges.
• Strong analytical and attention-to-detail skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook .
• Experience using legal bill review, eBilling, invoice review, or matter management systems .
• Preferred Experience: Licensed attorney with litigation experience.
• Senior claims adjuster with significant responsibility for outside counsel management and legal spend.
• Experience with electronic billing platforms and legal invoice review systems.
• Background in insurance claims, insurance defense, legal operations, litigation management, or legal spend management .
• Experience reviewing high-volume legal invoices and working independently.
