Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Neuro Intermediate Care Unit. The ideal candidate will possess a strong teamwork approach, adhering to behavioral expectations in all interactions with patients and staff, and will have the ability to titrate LEVO and follow strict call-off policies.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, specifically in neuro care. Candidates with limited neuro experience will be screened accordingly.
• Prior traveler experience is necessary; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Experience in the following settings is required: Neuro Stepdown, PCU, DOU, IMC, and Telemetry.
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including:
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Telemetry monitoring on the unit
• Use of rapid response and code teams
• Understanding of cardiovascular procedures, including management of TR Bands.
• Familiarity with endocrine/metabolic management, specifically IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips.
• Competence in gastrointestinal care, including managing feeding tubes.
• Knowledge of genitourinary/renal skills such as Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) and pre/post hemodialysis management.
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills, including blood product administration and central line management.
• Medication management experience required, including:
• Heparin protocols
• PCA and thrombolytic agents
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Neuroscience skills including management of aneurysms, craniotomies, CVAs, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, post-TPA care, and more.
• Surgical drain management experience is required.
• Respiratory skills, including BiPAP and CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
• Competence in isolation precautions, wound care, and utilizing wound vacs.
• Must possess certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Epic experience is also required.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• IV therapy and phlebotomy for accessing and managing ports.
• Experience in triage, Intracranial Pressure (ICP) management, conscious sedation, and charge nurse roles.
• Additional certifications such as CCRN, TNCC, and CPI are highly regarded.

Job Details

• Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:4, with a maximum daily census of 24 patients.
• Shifts available: 36 and 48-hour contracts up to a hard stop date in February 2027.
• Scheduled to work 12-hour nights, from 18:45 to 07:15.
• No on-call or charge responsibilities required.
• Travelers must work a minimum of 3 weekend shifts every six weeks.

Unit Information

This unit specializes in intermediate patient care, focusing on neurological populations as well as medical intermediate patients.

Orientation and Scheduling

• Orientation consists of 32 hours, including an 8-hour computer class followed by two shifts on the unit.
• Scrubs are not provided; staff may wear navy blue and white combinations.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must successfully pass EKG testing prior to the start date.

Ensure a commitment to teamwork and adhere to the call-off policy, which is strictly enforced.
