We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of construction estimating experience , with a strong background in Division 5 – Metals , including miscellaneous metals, ornamental metals, architectural metals, structural steel, stairs, railings, and custom fabricated metalwork.

This is a position for an estimator who can independently review construction documents, perform detailed takeoffs, develop accurate material and labor costs, obtain vendor pricing, and prepare competitive and profitable bids.

Candidates must have significant experience estimating metalwork projects. General construction estimating experience without Division 5/metalwork experience will not be considered.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, bid documents, addenda, and project requirements.
• Perform detailed quantity and material takeoffs.
• Prepare complete estimates for Division 5 metalwork projects .
• Estimate material, fabrication, finishing, delivery, equipment, labor, and installation costs.

  • Metal Framing

  • Structural and Decorative Supports
• Review project specifications and identify scope requirements, exclusions, and potential conflicts.
• Analyze plans and specifications to identify missing information, discrepancies, and potential project risks.
• Request and evaluate pricing from material suppliers, subcontractors, finishers, and other vendors.
• Develop accurate labor and installation costs based on project requirements and production capabilities.
• Prepare detailed proposals, bid summaries, scope letters, exclusions, and clarifications.
• Review addenda and incorporate revisions into estimates.
• Maintain organized bid files and estimating documentation.
• Work closely with Project Management, Purchasing, Fabrication, and Installation departments.
• Assist with value engineering and identify opportunities to improve project profitability.
• Follow up on submitted bids and assist with pricing negotiations as needed.
• Maintain and update historical pricing and estimating information.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of construction estimating experience.
• Significant experience estimating Division 5 / metalwork is required.
• Experience working with a metal fabrication, miscellaneous metals, ornamental metals, or structural steel contractor strongly preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of metal fabrication and installation methods.
• Strong understanding of construction materials, fabrication processes, welding, finishing, and field installation.
• Ability to independently perform detailed takeoffs from architectural and structural drawings.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, details, and schedules.
• Strong understanding of CSI MasterFormat and Division 5 specifications.
• Experience estimating both material and labor costs.
• Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and bid deadlines.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Experience

Experience with estimating software such as:

• Bluebeam
• On-Screen Takeoff
• PlanSwift
• OST
• ProEst
• Sage Estimating
• Other construction estimating/takeoff software

Experience with commercial construction, luxury/high-end residential, hospitality, condominium, and large-scale construction projects is a plus.

Experience reviewing or understanding shop drawings and fabrication drawings is highly preferred.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, detail-oriented estimator who understands that accurate estimating requires more than simply counting quantities. You should understand how metal is fabricated, finished, delivered, and installed in the field and be able to translate construction documents into a complete and profitable estimate.

You should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple bids simultaneously, meeting deadlines , and taking ownership of the estimating process from initial plan review through proposal submission.
