Global Support and Development is seeking to hire aMaritime Access Specialist (Salvage/Inspection).The position isfull-time, in-person, and located at HQ in Charlotte, N.C.
Anchored in precision, and powered by communication, the Maritime Access Specialist connects assets, skills, and people - ensuring every operation runs as smoothly as the tide.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Maritime Access, the Maritime Access Specialist will be critical in helping to aid maritime activities, including underwater operations, supporting disaster response operations, and capacity strengthening engagements alongside our partners.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The position will support the maintenance and operation of GSD Maritime assets. These assets include, but are not limited to, small boats (<40 ft), self-contained underwater dive equipment, personal watercraft, sonar capabilities, and other marine technologies that may be relevant to GSD missions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Execute GSDs mission in supporting the planning, execution and assessment of Maritime activities throughout the GSD operating area linked to Outreach, Capacity Strengthening and Disaster Response objectives. Activities include diving, light salvage, and underwater survey operations as well as infrastructure assessments, data analysis and product creation;
- Support critical decision-making processes to include identifying issues and driving problem solving, especially in resource-constrained and time-sensitive contexts;
- Execution of programs and projects for partner and community-led Maritime engagements;
- Support and participate in the comprehensive Maritime training curriculum and provide instruction to improve knowledge and skills of individuals and teams. Curriculum encompasses proper administration and execution of all operational functions to ensure compliance and protocols are upheld;
- Maintain the upkeep of all maritime salvage equipment which includes adequate inventory tracking and maintenance, the review of all maritime software and licensure, as well as liaising with Logistics to ensure remote equipment caches are adequately maintained;
- Primary departmental stakeholder in maritime salvage operations, delivery of safe system of diving, and collaboration with Field Operations and Logistics Department staff;
- Promote a safety and risk awareness culture within GSD. Foster the commitment to ethical and responsible practices at all times;
- Promote and action GSDs core values of accountability, humility, and integrity in all work we conduct;
- Promote good stewardship of financial and other resources to achieve maximum benefit to those impacted by disaster or at risk of impact; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience:
- Five (5) or more years in dive operations to include survey, salvage, and infrastructure inspection, with 80 or more working dives completed;
- Five (5) or more years experience in Multibeam and/or Sidescan SONAR,(preferred);
- Five (5) or more years in hyperbaric chamber operations, with 25 or more chamber profiles completed(preferred) ; and
- Proven experience working successfully with small teams.
Education:
- Accredited commercial diving school or suitable military equivalent (e.g. 2nd Class Diver School); or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience from the maritime sector.
Professional Licenses/Certifications:
- ADCI Surface-Supplied Air Diver or military equivalent;
- Dive Salvage Certification;
- Complete Specialist Crew training including a Seafarers Medical examination, or possess an ENG 1 or USCG Merchant Mariner Medical Certificate (within 6 months of hire);
- Kirby Morgan Hat Technician(preferred) ; and
- USCG 25 ton Master (Near Coastal) or IYT Master of Yachts 200 ton (Limited),(preferred).
Knowledge/Skills:
- Training and experience in a commercial dive salvage environment and / or light salvage diving operations;
- Training and experience in SONAR systems including theory and applications;
- Basic boat handling skills;
- Training and experience in field communications systems such as satellite, handheld and global positioning systems (GPS);
- Basic emergency or disaster response knowledge;
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to rapidly shift tasks;
- Experience working and/or traveling domestically and internationally; and
- Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French desired.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Commercial dive physical required (within 30 days of hire);
- At this time, GSD is not offering sponsorship and is only accepting applications from persons eligible to work in the United States; and
- Routine domestic and international travel up to 50% is required.

Working Conditions During Non-Deployment Periods
- Work is performed in an office setting and is generally sedentary, but may involve movement (e.g., walking, standing or otherwise being mobile throughout the office) for brief periods of time;
- Ability to use hands, reach, and independently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects;
- Ability to bend and stoop;
- Ability to sit and view a computer screen for extended periods of time;
- Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment;
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Working Conditions During Deployment Periods (Including Rapid Response)
- May be regularly exposed to and required to work in varying outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold, heavy rainfall, and other extreme weather events;
- May be required to engage in irregular travel and / or work schedules, which may include extended hours exceeding 8 or 12 hours in a day for prolonged periods outside of the control of the individual;
- While wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) which is required and provided by GSD:
- Work may be conducted near moving mechanical parts, which could include exposure to loud noises;
- Work may be conducted near and include potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals; or
- Work may be conducted in areas that include exposure to the risk of electrical shock or vibration.
- Ability to obtain necessary travel documents and fulfill any other travel requirements (including an active passport, visa requirements, vaccinations, etc.);
- This role may include deployments to support natural disaster response efforts within hazardous, dynamic, and unstable environments (economically/environmentally) in pre- and post- disaster scenarios, which could include, among other conditions: lack of access to medical care, exposure to critical incidents (including severe injury, death, traumatic encounters, and/or mental strain), and uncommon sleeping arrangements (i.e. not in a hotel, could include close living quarters and cohabitation);
- GSDs nutritional environment contains milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat products. Ability to make dietary accommodations may be limited. Potential exposure to food borne allergens; and
- Employees may be required for this role to work upon our Humanitarian Vessel for up to 30 consecutive days. The vessels working environment entails performing in conditions inherent to vessel travel, including but not limited to: steep and narrow stairs and living spaces, close quarters including cohabitation, sharp surfaces, metal gangways and ladders, heavy doors, European-type plugs and wiring (220-240v, 60Hz) which cannot support all American appliances, in addition to bright and flashing lights, loud noises, nuts and shellfish exposure, poor weather, movements which can trigger motion sickness, and / or limited access to hospital / definitive care. This setting involves various sea conditions, including but not limited to rough seas, adverse weather, and potential for sea sickness.

- Ability to perform work indoors in an office environment;
- Ability to work a varied schedule to complete projects and meet deadlines in response to changing demands;
- Ability to travel to attend meetings, industry or professional association conferences and stay overnight as required.

- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
