Substation Engineer

Substation Planner III – Greenville, SC We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Substation Planner III to join our team at K&A Power Group in Greenville, SC. Responsibilities Plan and schedule all activities associated with substation construction and maintenance projects. Develop and define project construction plans and work execution strategies. Plan and sequence complex construction and maintenance activities, including: Temporary facility installations Clearance and switching requirements Lead planning and scheduling discussions for projects of varying complexity. Coordinate activities with Transmission, Distribution, Generation, Engineering, and Project Management teams. Review and critique isolation procedures and project sequencing plans. Provide peer-level technical support for substation maintenance and construction work. Evaluate and identify clearance boundary requirements and associated risks. Support outage requests, clearance requests, hot-line tags, and switching/tagging processes. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues impacting project execution. Utilize engineering drawings, procedures, and equipment databases to support planning activities. Work independently with minimal supervision. Lead planning efforts and support other planners within the organization. Develop procedures and detailed work plans that enable safe and error‑free execution. Coordinate with leadership and field personnel to ensure successful project delivery. Maintain focus and lead teams effectively under pressure and during complex operational situations. Demonstrate and promote exemplary safety behaviors and safe work practices. Ensure all planned work complies with applicable safety procedures and operational requirements. Support NERC compliance through accurate documentation and timely completion of required activities. Identify, communicate, and mitigate operational risks associated with construction and maintenance work. Maintain accurate project documentation, files, and records. Ensure required paperwork is completed and submitted on time. Utilize Microsoft Office and related systems to support planning and reporting activities. Travel to project sites as required using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed). What we’re looking for: Minimum 10 years of experience performing transmission line and/or substation maintenance, construction, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, or operations work. Experience planning and coordinating substation maintenance and/or construction activities. Hands‑on experience working in and around electrical substations. Proven ability to independently plan and schedule complex maintenance and construction activities. Strong knowledge of substation equipment, including: Power transformers, Voltage regulators, Circuit breakers, Disconnect switches, Instrument transformers, Bus systems, Related substation apparatus. Knowledge of above‑grade and below‑grade substation facilities and structures. Understanding of equipment installation, maintenance, operation, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting. Knowledge of outage planning, switching and tagging processes, and clearance management. Familiarity with engineering drawings and equipment database systems. Ability to read and interpret: Technical drawings, Construction documents, Procedures, Clearance documentation. Strong organizational and planning skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities. Demonstrated leadership and team coordination skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
