Custodian - 10 Month

Routine manual labor associated with the daily cleaning of facilities

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Manual dexterity to use equipment
• Ability to see and read printed material with or without vision aids
• Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly
• Physical agility to lift and carry up to 40 pounds unassisted; to push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, walk, climb a ladder and reach overhead

Necessary and Special Qualifications:

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment
• Sufficient strength, agility, dexterity and oral / written communication skills required to perform all performance responsibilities
• Ability to work out of doors in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions
• Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to itinerant position
• Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with head custodian and co-workers

Performance Responsibilities:

• Police grounds and other public areas (including snow removal and weeding flower beds)
• Remove and properly dispose of trash
• Scrub, strip and refinish floors, dust mop, wet mop, sweep and spray-buff floors
• Vacuum, shampoo and clean rugs and carpet
• Scrub and clean restroom fixtures and keep restrooms supplied
• Dust, polish and clean by washing walls, doors, windows, lockers, furniture, woodwork and other above floor surfaces including those only accessible via ladder or other established lifting apparatus as required
• Replace light bulbs and overhead fixtures including those only accessible via ladder or other established lifting apparatus as required
• Move furniture and setup rooms for special events
• Notify supervisor of equipment conditions and facility needs
• Perform minor building maintenance to include painting areas only accessible via ladder or other established lifting apparatus as required
• Serve as a part of the emergency response team for YCSD and the County of York
• Perform other related duties as assigned by principal, appropriate administrator or head custodian
• Model non-discriminatory behavior at all times and follows established safe work practices
• Follow established YCSD policies and procedures at all time

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

• Can climb a ladder and lift up to 60 pounds from the ground and 35 pounds above the head
• Can stand for extended periods of time
• Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction
• Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tool and/or other equipment
• In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee's duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.

Terms of Employment:

Salary according to School Board Pay Plan
