Senior Planner The Senior Planner performs complex professional and technical planning duties as part of mid‑management. Broad expertise in professional planning issues and varying job assignments is required. Reporting Relationships Reports to the Deputy Director of Community Development or above. Responsibilities In the City of Glendale, all positions are responsible for excellent performance in the following areas: Provide exceptional customer service to all employees, customers, vendors, and other City departments. Model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct. Develop necessary skills from on‑the‑job training and meet performance standards by the end of the probationary period. Work necessary hours and times, including overtime as authorized for non‑management staff. Ensure duties are performed safely, efficiently, and maintain a safe working environment. Foster teamwork and establish effective working relationships. Give and receive direction in English; communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing. Operate or use all position‑related software, equipment, and tools effectively and safely. Actively participate in maintaining a secure computing environment and adhere to City cybersecurity policies. Minimum Requirements Education: Bachelor’s Degree in City Planning, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Historic Preservation, Sustainability/Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Economics, Public Administration or a closely related field. Experience: Six years of increasingly responsible professional experience in a public planning agency or private firm with direct experience on public planning, environmental, historic, transportation, or urban design/architectural issues. Transportation: California Class C Driver’s License. Working Conditions Work is primarily performed indoors in an office setting and in the field, Monday to Friday during regular office hours.
