• Contract Duration: 7 months
• Pay Rate: $30.00 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: Full-time. Hybrid schedule: in-office Tuesday-Thursday, remote Monday/Friday (if preferred). Can work in the office 5 days/week. Cannot work less than 3 days in office. Approximately 30% field work - may vary depending on time of year.
• Travel Requirements: Local travel for field visits. Long-distance travel may be required; pre-approved and reimbursable. Mileage reimbursed. Hotels may be reimbursable if approved.
• Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Job Summary

This role creates, updates, and revises sketches, working drawings, and contract documents using SmallWorld GIS software or manual means of drafting to meet customer requirements. The Designer prepares 2D and 3D models and must be able to read and comprehend detailed customer requirements, data sheets, and supplier specifications. Assignments will be completed utilizing information provided by project engineering, architectural, or technical services staff under the direction of a supervisor. The role requires familiarity with drafting techniques and engineering concepts and terminology, the ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints, and preparation of documentation to support design drawings. The Designer also prepares bills of material, schedules, and assists engineering personnel with formal drawing transmittals and construction issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and manage electric distribution projects for new and existing customers.
• Responsibilities include customer interaction, project management, field assessments, and system design using SmallWorld (customized GIS).
• Tasks include transformer sizing, underground cable routing, and pole placement.
• Collaborate with Operations and Distribution Engineers to ensure system reliability.
• Check SAP for new customer contacts.
• Conduct field visits or perform computer-based design work.
• Attend weekly scheduling meetings (Monday/Tuesday) and team touchpoints (Thursday).
• Manage highly varied day-to-day tasks, including changing tasks last minute to accommodate customers and/or high-profile or urgent matters.
• Primarily support external customers (residential and/or commercial) with new service requests or modifications.
• Work within a hybrid of individual and team work in a collaborative office environment with idea sharing.
• Perform a mix of field and office work.

Required Skills

• Basic electrical knowledge or background.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to effectively translate basic data to customers (non-technical audiences).

Preferred Skills

• GIS or AutoCAD experience.
• Electrical or utility background.
• Experience working with customers in high-stress/high-demand environments.

Required Experience

• No specific degree required; open to various backgrounds (construction, call center, police, etc.).
• Experience in electrical or utility fields is a plus.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Field work includes visits to residential, commercial, and construction sites.
• Safety gear will be provided: glasses, hard hat, safety vests, etc.
• Standard utility safety protocols apply.
• Uses personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement; may use pool/design cars if approved by managers.
• No additional parking fees.
• Willingness to relocate for the life of the assignment at own expense considered if non-local.

• The position may convert to a full-time opportunity; however, the opportunity for full-time employment may be adjusted based on business need and location. All Staff Aug Contractors are encouraged to apply for full-time employment.
• Proficiency expected in 6-9 months; full comfort with the role typically takes 2 years. On-the-job training is provided, especially for proprietary systems.
