Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter (INTERPRETER/TRANSLITERATOR ASL) Job Title Code: 00412 Salary Grade: I03-I05 Department: Exceptional Education Reports To: Coordinator – Exceptional Education FLSA Status: Non - Exempt Purpose of Job: Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a variety of situations using the appropriate sign language system to facilitate communication between individuals so that optimum learning can take place. Responsibilities Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who are mainstreamed into regular education classes (academic, support). Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students at school functions and extracurricular activities. Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students during psycho‑educational and other evaluations by the District or contracted personnel. Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students/parents at placement or other educational related conferences/activities. Interpret as assigned according to individual student or program needs. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None Qualifications High School Diploma Minimum of Certification Level III – Missouri Certification & Licensure Note: out of state certifications are subject to review/approval by District Administration and the Missouri Commission for the Deaf (MCD). Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree Educational interpreting experience Completion of Interpreter Training Program Physical Demands The job requires the employee to be able to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands and fingers, reach, bend, stoop, lift objects of at least ten pounds, occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
