- Location: Primary practice location will be Newport Beach, CA with potential clinical responsibilities at Hoag Irvine as the transplant program expands.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday with shared hospital call responsibilities.
- Duties: Clinical responsibilities include providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient hepatology care for patients with acute and chronic liver disease, including cirrhosis, portal hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma, metabolic and autoimmune liver disease, viral hepatitis, and acute liver failure. The physician will participate in liver transplant evaluations, outpatient hepatology and transplant clinics, inpatient hepatology consultation services, and the longitudinal management of liver transplant candidates and recipients. Responsibilities also include participation in multidisciplinary conferences, development of evidence-based clinical pathways, and collaboration with transplant surgery, transplant anesthesia, critical care, oncology, interventional radiology, infectious disease, primary care, hospital medicine, and other specialists to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Call: Shared hepatology and liver transplant call responsibilities, including inpatient consultation and management of liver transplant candidates and recipients.
- Team: Collaborate closely with transplant surgeons, advanced practice providers, transplant coordinators, hospitalists, intensivists, anesthesiologists, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, financial coordinators, nursing, and hospital leadership to provide comprehensive liver and transplant care across the health system.
- Qualities: The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care. Candidates should be committed to evidence-based medicine, patient-centered care, quality improvement, regulatory excellence, and the continued growth of the Hoag Liver Transplant Program.
- Meetings: Participation in multidisciplinary liver transplant selection conferences, hepatology case conferences, quality meetings, educational conferences, morbidity and mortality conferences, and departmental meetings are expected.

- Opportunities to provide leadership, support quality and safety initiatives, lead and maintain clinical excellence and innovation, and develop clinical, administrative, and clinical research activities for our patients
- M.D. or D.O. degree from a fully accredited medical or osteopathic school of medicine
- Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Internal Medicine
- Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Gastroenterology
- Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Transplant Hepatology
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Transplant Hepatology
- Demonstrated expertise in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic liver disease, including cirrhosis, portal hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma, viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver disease, metabolic liver disease, acute liver failure, and complications of end-stage liver disease
- Experience caring for hospitalized hepatology patients, liver transplant candidates, liver transplant recipients, and patients with advanced liver disease in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Experience practicing within an established liver transplant program and participating in multidisciplinary transplant care is strongly preferred
- Active, unobstructed California medical license, or the ability to obtain one
- Full prescriptive authority and an active DEA in California, or the ability to obtain one
- Ability to successfully complete Hoag Health's credentialing process
