Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 9 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS Must-Have: Experience with high volumes of ventilators and arterial lines Experience with titration of continuous infusions of sedation agents, pain medications, paralytic agents, and vasopressors Competency on the Baxter PrisMax machine is required for Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) patients Description: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of ICU nursing experience. The patient population consists of adults to geriatrics. Multidisciplinary rounds are conducted each morning with an intensivist, bedside nurse, pharmacist, respiratory therapist, occupational and physical therapists, dietitian, case manager, and wound care specialist. Night shift nurse practitioners place central lines, vascular catheters, and arterial lines. They also attend all codes, address ICU care issues, and admit patients to the ICU. The bedside nurse will be responsible for transporting patients when needed. The nurse will manage a patient-to-nurse ratio of 2 to 3. All potential ICU diagnoses will be encountered in this role. Nurses must have experience with arterial line management, chest tube insertion and removal, and ventilator management. The ability to interpret arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias is essential, along with infection prevention knowledge and isolation precautions. Experience with high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and IV insulin protocols is also required. Additional skills that are highly valued include starting and maintaining IVs, suctioning, and administering blood products. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in care for ventilated patients and management of cardiac and vasoactive drips.
