Registered Nurse Emergency Room

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room (ER) provides expert nursing care to adult and geriatric patients presenting with a wide range of emergency conditions including trauma, stroke, and critical illness. This role requires advanced clinical skills in IV therapy, cardiac monitoring, ventilator management, and emergency interventions. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to deliver rapid, high-quality care in a fast-paced, state-of-the-art hospital environment. An active New York RN license and certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS are mandatory, along with experience in emergency care settings.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in the emergency department.
• Perform IV therapy including blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, and maintenance of IVs with vasopressors.
• Manage ventilators and provide CPAP/BiPAP therapy.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret dysrhythmias, and manage cardiac emergencies.
• Conduct triage and apply isolation precautions as needed.
• Care for patients with stroke (CVA), neuro-trauma, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and orthopedic trauma.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to stabilize and treat emergency cases rapidly.
• Float within the emergency department or related units as required, maintaining competency within skillset.
• Utilize specialized equipment such as bair huggers, rapid infusers, and safe patient handling devices.
• Document patient care accurately using EPIC electronic medical record system.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active New York State Registered Nurse license (single state, non-compact).
• Valid BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
• Proven clinical skills in IV therapy, ventilator management, cardiac monitoring, and emergency care.
• Experience in adult and pediatric emergency nursing, including trauma and neuro care.
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with isolation precautions and triage protocols.
• Comfort with pediatric spinal cord injury care and crisis intervention.
• Familiarity with rapid patient stabilization techniques and advanced emergency equipment.

Special Considerations:

• Must be willing to float within the emergency department and related units as needed.
• Required to work every other weekend and be available for every other holiday if needed.
• Shift cancellations allowed up to three times during a 13-week contract without penalty.
• Locals within 75 miles are not accepted; first-time travelers are accepted.
• Scrub colors limited to any combination of navy blue and white.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour shifts alternating between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
• Contract length is 13 weeks.
• Shift and time off requests must be submitted at the time of assignment.
