A personal care worker

They also provide emotional support, help with light housekeeping, and may assist with transportation to appointments. Key responsibilities include helping clients maintain independence, monitoring their condition, and communicating with other caregivers and healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Personal Care: Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
• Mobility Assistance: Help clients move safely, including transferring from a bed to a chair or assisting with walking.
• Meal Support: Plan and prepare meals, ensuring dietary needs are met, and assist with feeding if necessary.
• Medication Assistance: Remind clients to take medication or assist with administration, as directed by their care plan.
• Household Tasks: Perform light housekeeping duties such as cleaning, laundry, and changing linens to maintain a safe and clean environment.
• Transportation: Accompany clients to medical appointments, errands like grocery shopping, or other activities.
• Companionship: Provide social and emotional support to clients, keeping them mentally engaged.
• Reporting and Documentation: Report any changes in a client's physical or behavioral condition to a supervisor and maintain records of services provided.

Typical qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate
• On-the-job training or formal certification (often preferred)
• Experience working with elderly, disabled, or other vulnerable populations is often beneficial
• Valid driver's license (for roles involving transportation)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A compassionate, patient, and caring disposition
