RN - FT - Acute Care for the Elderly Unit

Job Summary RN - 6 West Acute Care for the Elderly Location: Summa Health System – Akron Campus, Akron, OH Position: Full‑time RN, 36 hrs/week, 7 a.m.–7:30 p.m., alternating weekends/holidays Patient population: Geriatric patients requiring inpatient acute care or close observation and testing. Unit size: 28 beds Nurse‑to‑Patient Ratio: 1:5 to 1:6 (subject to change) Shift differentials: $5/hr for nights; $1/hr for weekends Residency program: 12‑month nurse residency for new graduates Key Responsibilities Provide, coordinate, and/or delegate nursing care to geriatric patients, families, and the community. Manage resources to deliver high‑quality care, maintaining patient safety and promoting optimal health. Use evidence‑based nursing theory to guide judgment in patient care decisions. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN). Associate’s degree holders must attain a BSN within three years. Accreditation: Graduate of a CCNE or ACEN accredited professional nursing program. License: Current RN license in the State of Ohio. Experience: PRN experience with at least one year recent experience in the area of practice; one year related RN experience required for weekend option. Physical & Technical Skills: Full range of body motion (lifting and handling patients), manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, standing/walking for extended periods. Other Competencies: Corrected vision and hearing within normal limits; ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours; exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment. Certification: Current Basic Life Support; Advanced Cardiac Life Support within six months for critical, progressive, or telemetry units.
