Fabrication Assistant

Dennis Lin Studios is a contemporary art studio specializing in large-scale fabrication and installation. The studio is seeking a highly capable, detail-oriented fabricator/studio assistant for part-time, in-person freelance work. The ideal candidate is technically skilled, self-directed, and comfortable working across a broad range of materials and fabrication processes within a fast-paced studio environment. This role is best suited to someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, problem solving, efficiency, and maintaining a high standard of finish and execution throughout all stages of production. The position will work closely with and consistently report directly to studio management. For the right candidate, there is strong potential for the role to grow into a full-time studio management and production position over time. Responsibilities Assist in the fabrication, assembly, finishing, and installation of artworks Work across materials including steel, bronze, wood, and mixed media Safely and efficiently operate woodworking equipment, metalworking equipment, and hand tools Read and interpret scale drawings, technical drawings, and fabrication plans Assist with fabrication systems including jig making, repeatability, consistency, and quality control Support artwork installation, handling, rigging, and safe transport procedures Prepare artworks for local and international shipment, including crating and packing Maintain studio organization, workflow efficiency, and production readiness Independently problem solve fabrication and installation challenges while maintaining deadlines and production standards Consistently communicate progress, challenges, and scheduling updates with studio management Assist with general studio maintenance and operational support as needed Position Details Part-time freelance position In-person studio work Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required based on production schedules Opportunity for long-term growth into a full-time management role Required Qualifications and Experience Minimum 2 years of demonstrated professional experience in a fabrication environment Intermediate fabrication skill set or higher Strong proficiency with woodworking and metalworking tools and equipment Experience handling and installing artwork, including large or heavy objects Understanding of finishing techniques and applications for both wood and metal Basic construction knowledge Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently while remaining collaborative and communicative with management Strong communication skills and professional attitude Ability to adapt within a dynamic production environment and proactively contribute during shifts in workflow Experience with crating and packing artwork considered an asset Forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift, or Working at Heights certifications considered an asset Valid Ontario G Class driver’s license with clean driving history required This role involves physically demanding studio work. Applicants must be comfortable: Lifting up to 75 lbs unassisted Moving heavier works with mechanical assistance Standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching for extended periods Working in active fabrication and installation environments Maintaining close visual attention to detail during prolonged fabrication tasks #J-18808-Ljbffr Dennis Lin Studios Inc
