Transfer Admissions Counselor

Job Description:

Longwood University invites applications for the Transfer Admissions Coordinator (FA114) position in Admissions. The Transfer Admissions Counselor plays a vital role in supporting transfer student enrollment by serving as a dedicated liaison between Longwood University, prospective transfer students, and its community college partners. This position is responsible for recruiting, advising, and guiding prospective transfer students through the transfer admission process, ensuring a seamless transition from their previous institution into Longwood University.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

• Actively recruit prospective transfer students by visiting partner community colleges, attending college fairs, hosting information sessions, conducting individual student meetings, and providing program information in a way that builds trust and supports student success.
• Meet regularly with campus partners to coordinate the expansion of the transfer admission program and plan recruitment events and information sessions for prospective transfer students.
• Develop and implement private visits and events that strengthen relationships with students and transfer counselors at Virginia community colleges.
• Plan and execute in-person and virtual information sessions, interviews, and campus tours that help prospective transfer students understand timelines, expectations, and available resources.
• Collaborate with the Office of Admissions leadership to design strategic recruitment plans that support a diverse and multifaceted transfer student population.
• Lead targeted outreach efforts to build community, increase applications, drive campus visits, improve student yield, and meet institutional transfer enrollment goals.
• Track student progress throughout the transfer process, ensuring timely follow-up and successful matriculation.
• Represent Longwood University at college nights, open houses, orientation events, and other on- and off-campus programs, including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Review and evaluate an assigned caseload of student applications to determine admissibility, adhering to office deadlines, policies, and review goals.
• Update student information systems with accurate applicant data; communicate with students and stakeholders when information is incomplete or additional documentation is required.
• Communicate effectively with prospective students, families, campus partners, transfer counselors, and community college personnel through email, phone/text, and written correspondence.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key personnel in assigned geo-markets to support effective communication, information sharing, and successful transfer student enrollment.
• Respond to inquiries sent to the Office of Admissions transfer email account and the employee's individual Longwood email account.
• Participate in electronic marketing communications and assist in the development of recruitment materials, digital outreach, and social media engagement.
• Collaborate with the Admissions Communications team to develop targeted transfer communications, including maintaining and enhancing transfer admissions webpages.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the Office of Admissions

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• Some experience in an Admissions office, student recruitment, and/or student transition services or advising students within a higher education setting
• Demonstrated excellence in working with the public and providing customer service.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students, families, school counselors, and other stakeholders.
• Experience with public speaking and delivering presentations with a strong comfort level speaking to large groups.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting goals and managing responsibilities effectively.
• Valid driver's license and the ability to travel
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
• Excellent critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Working knowledge of MS Office software.
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at Longwood University.

Preferred Qualifications:

• More than one year of experience in college admissions, student recruitment, or advising with a focus on transfer students.
• Knowledge of Longwood University and the Virginia Community College System.
• Experience in compiling, preparing, and analyzing data for reports.
• Experience with a CRM and/or Banner student information system
• Experience with event planning.

Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, administrative and professional faculty, exempt position. The anticipated salary range for this position is $40,000 - $50,000. A successful fingerprint based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
