Title: Simons Empire Faculty Fellow – Psychology (Assistant Professor) Location: Albany, NY Category: Faculty Job Type: Full-time Posted On: Mon Sep 22 2025 Job Description The Department of Psychology within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Albany invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track position – a Simons Empire Faculty Fellow – at the rank of Assistant Professor in Computational Cognitive Neuroscience. This role seeks a scholar who addresses fundamental questions about human cognition and the brain by integrating cutting‑edge neuroscience methods with innovative computational approaches such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, or neuromorphic computing. The department offers Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degrees across various concentrations and provides a collaborative environment that includes the Center for Neuroscience Research. Candidates should pursue excellence in research, teaching, and service at an R1 institution committed to diversity. Primary Responsibilities Research: Conduct innovative research, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, present at conferences, and secure external funding. Teaching: Educate undergraduate and graduate students, mentor them, and develop courses. Service: Participate in governance and departmental functions, including admissions, advising, and committee service. Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports to: Department Chair Supervises: Graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, research scientists, technicians, and other research personnel. Job Requirements The successful candidate will advance theoretical and empirical understanding of cognition through interdisciplinary integration. Expected to secure extramural funding, contribute to training, and elevate the university’s leadership in cognitive neuroscience. Minimum Qualifications A terminal doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in psychology, neuroscience, or related field from an accredited institution by August 15, 2026. Ability and plan to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses. A record of research and scholarly activity in cognitive neuroscience or related fields, demonstrated by peer‑reviewed publications, preprints, books, or conference proceedings. Experience working within interdisciplinary teams. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging. Preferred Qualifications Experience using computational modeling, AI, machine learning, neuromorphic computing, or similar tools in cognitive neuroscience. Publication record in high‑impact journals. Experience with modern neuroscience methodologies, including fMRI, EEG, MEG, neurostimulation, and real‑time behavioral integration. Evidence of potential for securing extramural funding. Teaching and curriculum development experience at the collegiate level. Working Environment Typical office, classroom, and research lab settings. Additional Information Professional Rank and Salary Range: A5, Assistant Professor, 10 months, salary commensurate with experience.
