RN- L&D Location: Morristown, NJ

The RN in Labor and Delivery is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in the labor and delivery unit. This role requires a thorough understanding of patient care from pediatric to geriatric stages, ensuring safety, professionalism, and effective communication with patients and families.

Responsibilities:

• Assessment skills: Demonstrates competent knowledge of all the normal stages of growth and development from pediatric to geriatric and delivers patient care appropriately.
• Performs thorough assessments that are systematic, comprehensive, and accurate.
• Clinical Skills: Consistently demonstrates competent clinical skills and performs direct patient care activities in support of patient care delivery and team concept.
• Provides competent and appropriate nursing care to the population of the unit.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures.
• Documentation: Maintains complete and accurate documentation and demonstrates knowledge of documentation guidelines.
• Assumes primary responsibility for documenting components of the nursing process and patient's progress toward meeting outcomes in the patient's chart, including patient education.
• Professionalism: Demonstrates professional practice responsibility and knowledge of policies and procedures, identifying areas for clinical and professional growth.
• Patient Satisfaction: Consistently responds to patients, families, and co-workers in a professional, courteous, and positive manner to promote an environment where the patient and family are at the center.
• Maintains confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
• Safety: Consistently follows the National Patient Safety Goals, including following Universal Protocol and identifying patients utilizing two patient identifiers.
• Demonstrates use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patients.
• Unit Specific Job Function: Demonstrates knowledge of the conditions/diagnoses, procedures, and equipment encountered for surgical patients.
• Individualizes patient care according to the procedure and type of anesthesia across the continuum of care.
• Assesses patient reaction and understanding of procedure/instructions.
• Responsibility and Accountability: Contributes to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care by prioritizing the care of patients depending on their needs and any changes in their condition.
• Patient Education and Chart Completion: Assesses patient's understanding of surgical procedure/instructions, actively including the patient and family members in teaching.
• Performs pre-operative and postoperative assessment and education.
• Duties Specific to PAT RN: Supports the completion of patient testing in a timely manner.
• Evaluates Pre Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and for potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and current state of health.
