Director Of Philanthropy
Established in 1970, Boley Centers, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization serving individuals with mental disabilities, individuals and families who are homeless, Veterans and youth in Pinellas County. Boley Centers has an opportunity for a full-time Director of Philanthropy to provide leadership for Boley Centers' efforts to expand philanthropic support, strengthen donor engagement, and develop sustainable sources of unrestricted revenue. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Director will be responsible for building a comprehensive donor development strategy to deepen relationships with existing supporters while cultivating new individual, corporate, and community donors. The Director will identify and develop innovative earned revenue opportunities, including the future use and leasing of the Mary R. Koenig Center and other appropriate Boley properties for external events and community functions.
The Director will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to establish annual and long-term revenue goals, develop realistic fundraising targets, monitor performance against those goals, and incorporate philanthropic and other new revenue opportunities into the organization's financial planning and budgeting process.
The Director will also work in close partnership with the Director of Marketing & Communications to coordinate donor communications, maintain effective use of the shared donor database, promote consistent organizational messaging, and clearly define responsibilities for donor outreach and engagement.
Compensation & Performance Incentive
The Director of Philanthropy will receive a competitive base salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to base compensation, the Director will be eligible for an annual performance incentive based upon achievement of established organizational and philanthropic performance goals. Annual goals will be developed in collaboration with the President & CEO and Chief Financial Officer and may include growth in unrestricted revenue, new donor acquisition, donor retention and development, major and planned gifts, corporate sponsorships, successful revenue-generating initiatives, and other measurable objectives.
The incentive structure is intended to recognize achievement of meaningful and sustainable revenue growth while also rewarding the development of the donor relationships, philanthropic infrastructure, and long-term revenue opportunities necessary to strengthen Boley Centers' financial position.
Philanthropy & Donor Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive philanthropy strategy focused primarily on increasing unrestricted revenue and building sustainable donor relationships.
- Establish a structured donor cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship process.
- Develop strategies to identify and cultivate prospective individual, corporate, foundation, and community donors.
- Build stronger relationships with existing donors and create opportunities for donors to become more meaningfully connected to Boley Centers and its mission.
- Develop and launch a planned giving program, including strategies to identify and cultivate individuals interested in legacy and estate gifts.
- Develop strategies to increase annual giving, recurring gifts, major gifts, memorial and tribute gifts, and other unrestricted contributions.
- Partner with the Chief Financial Officer and President & CEO to establish annual philanthropic and unrestricted revenue targets and multi-year growth goals.
- Maintain an active fundraising pipeline and provide regular projections of anticipated revenue, significant donor opportunities, and potential risks to achieving established goals.
- Regularly report progress, donor trends, pipeline activity, and fundraising results to the President & CEO and CFO.
Financial Planning & Revenue Performance
- Work collaboratively with the CFO to keep track of annual revenue targets for philanthropy, sponsorships, events, and other revenue-generating initiatives under the Director's responsibility.
- Assist in developing annual budget assumptions related to philanthropic and earned revenue.
- Monitor actual revenue performance against budgeted goals and identify strategies to address variances or capitalize on emerging opportunities.
- Develop appropriate metrics to evaluate financial performance and return on investment of fundraising campaigns, events, donor acquisition strategies, and other revenue initiatives.
- Provide reliable revenue projections to support organizational forecasting and financial planning.
- Ensure fundraising strategies balance immediate revenue generation with the development of sustainable, long-term donor relationships.
Collaboration
The Director of Philanthropy will serve as a collaborative organizational leader and will work closely with the CEO, Chief Financial Officer, Director of Marketing & Communications, executive leadership, program leadership, Boley Angels, Board members, donors, community partners, and external consultants and will maintain strong working relationships with:
- Chief Financial Officer: Establish revenue targets, incorporate philanthropic and earned revenue into organizational budgets and forecasts, monitor financial performance, and evaluate the return on investment of fundraising and revenue-development activities.
- Director of Marketing & Communications: Coordinate donor communications, database management, organizational storytelling, marketing campaigns, events, sponsorships, public messaging, and community engagement while maintaining clear roles and responsibilities between the two functions.
- President & CEO: Establish philanthropic priorities, cultivate significant donor and community relationships, identify strategic revenue opportunities, and align philanthropy with Boley Centers' overall strategic direction.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field preferred.
- Significant professional experience in philanthropy, fundraising, donor development, nonprofit advancement, business development, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated success developing relationships that result in financial support, sponsorships, partnerships, or other revenue.
- Experience with major gifts, planned giving, donor stewardship, corporate partnerships, or fundraising events strongly preferred.
- Experience working with donor/customer relationship management databases preferred.
- Experience working with nonprofit boards, auxiliary organizations, community leaders, and volunteers preferred.
