About This Role

Textron Systems is seeking a mechanical engineer to join our Sea Systems business area to develop solutions in support of our unmanned surface vehicles programs. Current focal areas include autonomous control, advanced payload integration, vision systems, and other emerging technologies to enhance our unmanned surface vehicle platforms’ capabilities.

Your day may include designing, simulating, constructing, and field-testing autonomous surface vehicles and their subsystems. Our goal is to deliver disruptive autonomy technologies that enhance our customers’ mission capabilities We work on applied research and development initiatives as well as established programs, and leverage diversity of thought to improve Textron Systems’ lines of robotic products.

Responsibilities:

• Perform hardware engineering activities within a team of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers.

• Develop imaginative, thorough, practicable technical solutions to a wide range of challenging Mechanical Engineering problems.

• Contribute to concept development as part of internal cross-functional design teams, including prototyping, production, and test support.

• Perform detailed design of mechanical structures and subsystems using solid modeling, requirements analysis, trade studies, mechanical engineering analysis (including structural, dynamics, and thermal), drafting and tolerance analysis, and human interface design.

• Prepare high-quality formal engineering documentation such as drawings, specifications and design presentations to customers.

• Brief peers, management, and customers on design considerations and program status.

• Prepare and/or manage design change documentation via Engineering Change Notices/Engineering Change Proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electro-mechanical engineering, or a related field with 5 years of experience.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including preparation of design documentation.Effective presentation skills.

• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).

• Desire and ability to operate in a team environment is required.

• Experience with mechanism development, generating Free Body Diagrams, performing basic static/dynamic/structural hand calculations, prototyping, packaging, performance specifications, material tests, and research investigations.

• Familiarity with and ability to use computer-aided design tools is required; Siemens NX and SolidWorks are preferred; Jira is a plus.

• Experience designing tests for military environmental, shock, and vibration qualifications.

• Temperament to work in the lab, shop floor, or office.

• Familiarity with ASME drawing standards is preferred.

• Ability to get a security clearance.

Textron’s compensation package includes competitive base pay and provides eligible employees with benefit programs. The pay range should be used as a general guide only. Compensation is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

In compliance with the local pay transparency law, the pay range for this position is

$110,500 - $139,200 per year.
